I was thinking today, weve had recent discussions about the cost of running a 24hour race, but what about the smaller series like the gt3 cup challenge or something?
These are, mostly, I think, made up by gentlemen drivers who have professions outside of racing, right?
So what would a weekend run them with having a crew to service the car etc? And are these cars mostly rented or owned?

Porsche GT3 cup runs about 30-40k per weekend depending on how far you're traveling, crew, etc.
It costs enough that it hurts a little, regardless of what level of competition fits the bill for you.
Looks like these guys offer a Arrive and drive
WRL and AER teams have some Porsches if you are just looking to get into that particualar car for cheaper.
when it comes to these types of things I take the moto of;
If you have to ask you probably can't afford it?
Also if the few novels, books, articles, etc. I have read on this are any indication the multi-driver teams that are financed by celebrities and rich people have paid (or at least fully sponsored) hot shoe drivers to be fast enough that they can win without being so.

*motto
Being able to afford it should not affect one's urge to ask, be curious.

i like that motto;
always be curious... nobody ever said yes to somebody who didn't ask right?
Some data points...
I have a friend who races TA2, he said that $80k weekends aren't uncommon.
Another friend is planning to campaign an M4 GT4 in WRL. He's figuring $40k/weekend. Split between 3 or 4 drivers, that's $10-12k per driver.
A team local to me runs an NC Miata in ChampCar, WRL, Lucky Dog etc. they usually charge around $3500-4000 for a seat, split between 4 drivers. To me this seems like a reasonable cost for a lot of laps in a reasonably competitive car that you don't have to worry about transporting or maintaining.
Great information, thank you
The "Don't ask as you can not afford it" is something that someone said to me early on in my life and it pissed me off to the point that I decided to make it my mission to be better off than them. A lot of hard work on my part and a bit of karma and they were applying for a job at my company 20 years later. No, they did not get the job. They were not qualified.
From my experience, people that are truly wealthy generally tend to be the kindest and most giving people that are willing to impart knowledge to those that ask with sincerity. If they sense an "angle" they will be nice but keep their distance.
