My buddy who knows I tinker with cars texted me a guys number who is cleaning out a garage and has a 67 Datsun 2000 for sale. I see that some parts are really expensive or non-existent but what else do I need to know before checking it out?
Im a serial project killer, the more complete it is the more likely it is to ever run again or just get sold to someone else. He said it is complete and his tiny picture shows it red and covered and surrounded by crap.
Anyone?
Buy first, ask questions later.
You don't want it. Do send it my way.
DO IT, DO IT berkeleyING NOW
That's what it looks like, some star five spoke wheels on it. I'm calling him tomorrow...
I'm calling him tonight.
Datsun roadsters are in my top 3 best looking Japanese cars of all time (With the Toyota 2000 and FD Rx-7)
DOOOOO EEEEET!
Put some miles on it: http://roadsterroadtrip.com/
At the Watkins Glen vintage a few years ago Datsun was the honored marque. Never seen so many 1600/2000's in one place.
One of the few genuinely desireable Jap classics IMHO. I also like 510's and 240Z's but almost anything else Japanese, not so much. Grab it. Prices will go up on the 2000's in particular, probably much less so for the 1600's.
I don't usually like convertibles...
but when I do this is one of them.
There's lots of potential niftyness in a car like that.
Look for frame rust.
Sell it to me so I can add a rotary.
That's a car that has the potential to increase in value in the short term.

The classic Japanese market has really been heating up. A friend autox's one in Cincy and it's a rowdy beast! Buy it!!! Need Pics shortly...
Buy it, buy it now.
The whole classic car market is heating up and 2000GT's are setting record sale prices at auction right now. They're drawing attention to ALL the early, sporty Japanese cars.
Working on it will be easy, Datsun roadsters are just British cars with a good electrical system and less oil leaks.
You should send it my way. Now preferably. Those are definetly in my top 3 to own list.
If it's a 67, it may have the desirable "short windshield". If so, these are the most valuable models. These haven't really jumped in price yet, but there is a good chance they will get more valuable over time. As long as it isn't rusted badly, this could be a car you drive for a few years, and sell for more than you paid.
IF it isn't a rusty hulk........I'm pretty sure Datsun was using metal with the same thickness as wallpaper back then-- so examine it very carefully.
In tip-top shape, I can see these bringing $25K before too long. Watch out though.....a rusty one could cost much more than that to restore.
Yeah, when are ya bringing it home and taking pics for us?
The owner is on vacation and the garage in question is 400 miles from here. What a temporary let down.
So the only beneficial info in this thread is look for rust (midwest, you look for rust in ten year old cars) and they are sweet and should be bought immediately. Any other info?

Yep. If it's a short-windowed version, which it looks to be, that there is probably the most sought-after mass-produced Japanese car of the 60s. And for good reason, they're reasonably attractive, have good brakes, and with the right carbs, that motor would make 150 HP out of the box, which was a very big deal in the 1967 world of 4-bangers. I had the 1600 version which was pretty popular with women, but performance-wise, just meh. At that age I would have donated a testicle for a clean 67.5 2000.
I can't speak from personal experience, but here is a decent write up of details on the Datsun roadsters.
Linky.
