In a household with three drivers we’re down to three cars.  I’m DDing my resurrected NC, Tiger Mom is pouring silly amounts of fuel into the tow pig QS Suburban, and the eldest girl is using my Passat wagon.

Found a pair of mid 2000’s minivans (one dodge one ford) that belonged to an elderly couple who have passed away and their kids just want the cars gone.  Asking $1500 for the pair and will take $1300.  One for the daughter one for TM and for the first time in nearly 5 years my Passat will be mine again.

I'm some kind of freak in this company because my fleet is only ever 2 cars. The Miata and whatever wretched winter vehicle I've acquired, which right now is a piece of junk Baja

I'm in the opposite straight.

Wife has a Mazda5, thats all hers.

I have the following (in order of acquisition)

(doesnt really count, but two mopeds that havent run right in YEARS)

  1. 97 mustang cobra (had it since 2002, dont have the heart to sell, wife would kill me if I sold it)
  2. 95 Miata ( was daily, blew out my back and had a kid. Havent drivent it since July)
  3. 61 Austin Healey Sprite (first restoration project, almost driveable)
  4. 75? Spitfire (was going to build a racecar, hopefully leaves next week)
  5. 07 Ford Expedition (new daily, baby hauler, tow pig)
  6. Mystery, to be revealed at a later date, but sticking around.

A condition of spousal approval for #6 was getting rid of two others.  She was right. My ADD would have prevented me from doing justice to all of them and I am tripping over myself in my shop and feel guilty about the miata being in the driveway sitting.  Need to figure out a fair price for the miata and make it poof.

This board makes me feel restrained as a vehicle enthusiast. My wife and I have 3 cars (2 are dailies, the E36 is going away soon) and I have a motorcycle. Our friends can’t understand having multiple cars. I like options

Seperate from those I have a work car, a wrangler, a corvair and an s10 registered to me.  I had an m3 until this morning. I am comfortable at the number I currently have registered.  I need to seriously get rid of the seven I am readying for sale...

My wife has a 4x4 Armada that I use to tow stuff.

My wife's daily:

  • Mazda5

Business has 4:

  • 2 Prius, Mercury Milan, Ford Focus

Remaining are:

  • Montero (for 4wd things)
  • Super Duty (for truck/tow things)
  • 2 Infiniti Q45s (for Challenge things)
  • '90 Miata (for convertible things)

I guess that is 10.

However:  Current value all total is less than $35k.  Most people have that much money tied up in one car or two.

All are fully drivable and all but maybe 3 are ready for a long distance drive

My personal fleet is up to three now for the first time. FRS daily, LS swapped RX7, and the C1500 I just bought from my uncle, plus SWMBO's Wrangler. Well technically four I guess, but the Camaro carcass hasn't been functional in two years and needs to go. As for two wheeled things, I have the Bandit that I could theoretically get running in an afternoon, and probably still an ancient Honda dirtbike in a shed on my parents' rental property that I haven't seen in 5+ years.

Three slightly sickly ones with a malingerer in the garage to be tackled head on pretty soon.  Most people think I'm crazy especially women to which I reply 'well none of you want to date me so it's the cars then!'   Of course I haven't paid more than $1k for a car and once got a perfectly serviceable Sentra for free that only needed a radiator.  I'd love to put the 200sx(s) in a car a garage and build a pair of tarmac rally cars.  One can dream.  Then I'd go out and buy a Juke and Altima coupe to replace both.  The SVT when up and running will be trade bait for a sickly Z32. smiley

Thirty five years ago I had 11 cars, and if I had no running customer car I could not go home for dinner....Hunger cured me. I have had no more than 3 since 1989, and am now at 2, 1990 Volvo 245, and 1981 Fiat X1/9, both run (today...)

My current DD, 04 lancer Ralliart wagon.

88 Silverado for truck things.

01 Miata for autocross things.

Two drivers, but the eldest just turned 15.

Looked at all the options, may be looking for another somewhat less used sienna soon.

I'm in the weird situation of only having four cars for the first time in 13 years. Sure only one of them is DD worthy, but they all do run, which is rare. Our family hauler gave its life valiantly for me and my boys, so we hauling everyone around in my Camry.

The good thing is I'm under zero pressure to get a new family hauler, but ideally it needs to happen before the tax return fueled used car market explodes in January.

Just 3 cars here right now.  My Jeep (which has been the eternal DD / project / nightmare for the almost 9 years I've owned it but is finally mostly off DD duty), my E38 740i (now my DD) and SWMBO's Prius (her DD / dog hauler).

The fleet will grow at some point, but it's all a matter of when a car I want to own comes up for sale at a time when I've got money to buy it and it otherwise makes sense to buy it.  Given plenty of money and storage space, I'd be adding a truck (probably in the form of a crew cab / long bed F350), a second Jeep (to build into a trail rig) and some kind of summer-only toy to the fleet.

But the current place is a little bit storage space limited.  Driveway will hold 10+ cars, but only 1 or 2 before I have to start moving cars to get other cars out (we can up that to 4 if I can block one side of the garage).  But the garage will hold all 3 in the current fleet once I do a little cleaning / rearranging and park the Jeep sideways in the back (not quite deep enough to put it in lengthwise with another car behind it, Jeep plus Prius is only 15" shorter than the depth of the garage).  I'll just have to move the BMW out of the garage any time I want to get the Jeep out.  I'd love a garage that were 35 - 40 feet wide (3 bays) and 45-ish feet deep (enough to go double deep and still have space for tools, etc. at the back).  Current garage is 23x31 inside, so not quite double deep and only 2 bays wide.

In reply to rslifkin :

I'm pretty much capped out on what I can conveniently park right now as well, at least without filling up the yard. I have a 3 car garage, but it's pretty shallow, and the narrow driveway makes swinging into the 2nd bay a PITA and the 3rd nearly impossible. My next place, some years down the road, will have some kind of huge ass barn or pole building.

We are down to two drivers at the house and we have three cars parked out front.  Bases on what my wife will, or wants to drive, now that we have what is considered weather in Southern California and living at 5600 feet, the car with the newest snow tires is her first choice. We have been married for 34 years, if she is comfortable driving to work down the mountain five days a week I will take second choice.  That I can switch cars from Hospital parking lot when I am going by 90 minutes after she has already been on the clock, priceless.

Our third choice, a 1994 Nissan Pathfinder 2wd v6 auto has at 292,000 miles confirmed it's not going anywhere, in reverse.  That gear was lost over four years ago.  But once again the car has survived it's bi-annual State of California smog inspection and is making the air cleaner by running, when it is called to do so.  The lack of rust on the car is not normal, the AC on the car works better than my wife's DD, and the car drives like a lifted 510 four door with a v6.  Think body roll and wallowing( on snow tires }, but the door handles have not been removed, by road contact.

Like most of the plastic's from the 80's and 90's, what is on the car is dried out and as long as you look but do not touch it stay's on the car.  But we have a 13 year old, he wants to know what all the old switches do, they work once then self destruct.  But the car keeps starting.  And as long as it passes the stay of "gross polluter" test, it might be around long enough to be our youngest's fist car.  With "reverse" added back into the gearbox.
