I was digging through old family photos and found a few that I thought others would appreciate.

My grandfather was a mechanic in the Navy in WWII, then a mechanic for Pan Am, then worked for Martin(I'm pretty sure) in Cape Canaveral. He loved mechanical everything. He was a serial tinkerer. Why buy it when he could build it? As a kid I would just sit and watch what he was doing. I truly wish I could have spent more time with him, when I understood what he was doing. But it's suffice to say he had a strong influence on me.

By the time of my earliest memories, the mid 1990s, he had moved mostly into building steam boats. I vaguely recall one of his steam motorcycles sitting in the garage but it was gone by about the time I was 8 or so. Until seeing these photos though I didn't know he had built steam cars! Though the body work is different and there are some engine differences I'm pretty sure the VW was rebodied and modified but used the same base pan. Not sure what's going on with the MGA but I want to know more!

He was one of us for sure

That's awesome. There's more than one way to move a vehicle. wink
