So I have not been working for the last week and a half and the GLI has been sitting for most of that time. During this time we have had a pretty nasty windstorm that ripped siding and skirting loose from my mobile home, knocked the power out for 4 days (killing my attack goldfish), and left me GRMless for over a week. Today while putting the house back together something under the Jetta caught my eye. The interior third of the passenger front tire is gone, right down to the belts. Under more scrutiny I realize that BOTH front tires have the interiors worn right off of them. As a former alignment tech I understand what causes this, I know what to look for and know how to remedy this. What amazes is me is that I had this vehicle in the air three weeks ago and the tires were square and suspension was tight, I am just amazed that it jumped up and ate the tires so quickly.

Not working right now so I need to keep costs down but I depend on this little terd, and I rather like it. I am putting the worn snows on it for the time being and have a set of Kumho Ecsta LX Platinums on order from Tire Rack but they will not go on until the suspension is right. Obviously something has failed, the control arm bushings are what I am thinking, who has intimate knowledge of the MKIV Jetta suspension that might be able to help me out on this?

Bump to the top, since SWMBO's car recently decided to display the same symptoms.

Not sure if this is the only reason, but having seen MK4 suspension completely disassembled, audi tt control arm bushings should be on the list for sure.

I am genuinely sorry to hear about your goldfish. That just sucks.

Glad you're back! Sorry to hear about the job, the car, the storm and of course the goldfish.

I wish I could help with the suspension, but I'm sure someone will pipe in with something helpful.
