Wow, the price of decent square  body c10's is already outrageous in the NE. Guess gmt400 are due to climb but damn.

That one irritates me.  You can't get much more ambiguous.  I hope that silly moniker doesn't have staying power.

Its been around forever,  before we all started calling them gmt400. Obs became a thing in 1999 when the nbs came out, then the nnbs, then.....

Its berkeleying stupid. Hopefully its on the way out.

Trying to figure out this new forums in Facebook thing. Not a fan. But the real forums for those trucks and the neons has died. So i guess, if i want stuff from other than here, i HAVE TO deal with Facebook.

They are too.

So now we have obs chevy, obs ford, AND obs dodge...

Then the Fords are split into "Bullnose" through '86 then '87-up is ?

I'll just come right out and say that OBS is to GMT400 as Facebook is to Forums.  It's a term invented by 'casuals' (an icky word from the other end of the spectrum!) that never get far enough into actual details to find better terms. Most of the time when you hear or see people saying OBS the topic is purely visual. These wheels, this lowering, this lift, this cheesy aftermarket slap on accessory..

Heck...until recently for me it was always "eighty-eight-to-ninety-eight GM trucks."  And then there was the followup about Suburbans and CrewCabs, etc.

A buddy of mine complimented a co-worker's "perfect restoration" on his 1st Gen Ram. All except it was 1995 and the truck was a '93. The guy was like, "This is a '93." Good thing my buddy was 15 and didn't know any better.

When I was a teenager, one of my dad's friends was bragging up his Dodge and I didn't really know anything about them at the time. He asked what year I thought it was, I guessed 1978. 

It was a 1991.

Now it's hard to imagine/remember but the GMT400 was the first truck that was modern/stylish/aerodynamic or however you want to put it.

I remember the trucks came out early, Spring of '87, maybe even in February. It was a big deal; lots of hype.

And when it's predecessor the square body or rounded line as gm rerefered to it considered radical in terms of the cab etc and more areodynamic or car like then any other truck before 

LOL at going from being called "round" to "square". The people calling it round probably crapped when they saw the '96 Taurus!

Well the rounded part was largely the cab section roof windshield etc. Compared to previous trucks it was more rounded. Square body is usually in terms of the front design.

And if you ever look at the lower door/rockers on one that lays frame, you'll see just how much curvature there is!

Yes, as compared to '67-'72 it is "rounder".

While "OBS" irritates the heck out of me, I must admit I have given in to using "Square body" for the '73-'87s.  I guess maybe we should call '67-'72 "Squarer Body."  What's that make '60-'66?  (I'm sure "The Awesome Body Style" would be too contentious)
