Has anyong else done the math on this?
The under $1,000 class at The Challenge might have just become very competitive with the Kumho Tire rule change.
Buy a fairly fast car ( Starion turbo, Corvette, etc.) for $2,000, do the $1,000 sell off, then buy a brand new set of V710s ($800-$1,600).
I hope I'm not seriously messing up anyone's game plan, but the under $1,000 class could suddenly become a lot faster (and harder to win).
$2,000 car - $1,000 sell off + $New $et of V710$ = fast $1,000 car
Naw, never mind. I'm probably wrong. Forget what you just read.
Excuse me, I have to go do some Craig's list shopping now.

The under $1000 class has been pretty hard to win for a long time.
The clown and Team Mini Me have been playing there for quite a while.

Explaining to your friends that you managed to win the $1000 class with a $2600 car: Priceless.
If my lazy ass will ever get the Challenge car done, I'm hoping we can obliterate the clown for under $500. And there's no berkeleying way I'm spending money on new tires.

Woah, just saw rule #25: Kumho Tires do not count towards the total budget. This is to thank Kumho for years of support for our event—and the fact that their tires kick ass.
HOLY E36 M3BOX THE FIAT NOW QUALIFIES TO RUN!!!!
I was over-budget by a couple hundred dollars due to my desire to restore the car as much as drive it and I was going to totally throw in the towel of finally coming to a challenge. I'm running Kumho Power Stars on 13" rims, and my tired old 1.6L might be firing 70 or 80 WHP, but HOT DAMN!
So now the real question, is do I man up and drive a 40 year old Fiat from Atlanta to FL, beat on it, most likely break things multiple times, and try to drive it home?

So now the real answer is: Yes!

If you're worried about it, rent/borrow a trailer. It will be worth it to participate.

Yeah I was just so excited to read that rule that my excitement got the better of me. I'll have to see about towing it down.

You may have asked this question in a moment of excitement or insanity, but if it was a logical question, what exactly did you expect the reply to be?
"No- save the car, a Fiat has been here before, you car is still over priced.."
or
"Duh- of course bring it down, I'm sure we can arrange a trailer if you break"

BWAHAHAHAHAHA.....to both
better question, when was a 124 spider brought, and was it as a serious entrant? I ask because I'd be coming more for fun and spectating the spectacle, but I need an excuse...
In reply to Raze:
Wheels brought a fiat once, which lit up the drag strip, but I can't recall a 124 or a 2000.
Why not the non-running $950 Fiat X1/9 F/Prepared racer listed on Racing Junk.com? If tires are now a cost-free item like safety equipment then that makes $1062 available for getting it running and some cheap wheels to mount the biggest Kumhos possible.
Wonder could a 13B be purchased and adapted to the car within budget?

This is true.
It should be noted, however, that it was a V-8 powered Fiat.
