I think it looks really good.

It reminds me of my facelift '88 z31. Especially the tail lights.

Ohhh I like that. Definitely a generational change. First time in a long time a car manufacturer seems to have gotten both ends of the car right.

Any idea if it will be offered with a manual transmission?

Where did the $35k figure come from? The linked article says mid 40s to start. I might be a buyer at 35k if I was willing to shed a toy or two

Yes manual will be an available option.

Of the modern options, this is one of a few cars that I could maybe see myself buying. Not crazy about the interior but I doubt that I ever will be with anything modern. It really bugs me the way the black from the roof comes down the rear, makes it looks like a hatch and not in a good way. I was really hoping that they would fix that from the prototype *sigh* Really makes me wonder what the non-auto journalists will have to say about it when they start hitting the street.

Not gonna buy one because the driveway is full and I'm not ditching either of my current herd for a car loan. Could still see myself going to check one out in person. Probably the only new car in recent history that has had me making "hmmm" noises while pondering parking before quickly realizing that there just isn't room.

I may have to start saving my pennies. A real fastback with a manual? The BRZ got it half right, but I don't own one mostly because of the trunk. I dig the new Supra to some degree, but it's a bit overstated for my taste.

Honestly, I kind of didn't expect Nissan to actually come through on this, considering the rest of their recent bland offerings.

Saw it elsewhere, I'll see if I can dig it up.

This is good. I was envisioning one of their beautiful CVTs.

I appreciate the overall styling, and think it will age much better than the Supra. It still looks incomplete without a horizontal bar cutting the grill in half though... Hopefully the aftermarket will pick up where nissan of left of, when the designers we're apparently told "pencils down" just before they were able to finish it.

Agreed.  There's a bit too much of the 350/370Z in the front end, and something like that bar would do a good job of removing that resemblance

Someone made a manual sports car and that makes me happy!

but what it is like 4000lb? Twin turbo V6 in a lipsticked 370z? Mmm maybe. I'll reserve judgement but I'm skeptical

I do not not like that.

Guessing it is positioned to go up against the Supra not the BRZ/FRS niche?

400hp, manual transmission, RWD, $35k. Hard to argue with that recipe.

A friend has a Q50s with what I think is effectively the same motor. With a simple tune, he's at 450whp.

If true, 4000lb = nope.

its biggest issue is the mustang.  You can get base manual GT;s in the 29-31k region.

In reply to Pete. (l33t FS) :

I've seen figures of 3,200-3,300 lbs. Supposedly it's marginally lighter than the 370Z. Believable. After all isn't the chassis basically a 370?

I try to give a brand a chance and not just say no because I don't care for the brand, but this doesn't do enough to get me over my dislike of Nissan.  I think it's actually uglier than the 370.  I've driven a lot of 350/70s and similar to Datsun310Guy, I don't fit, I expect similarly terrible seats in the new 400.

Still unpleasant, but lighter than the 370Z is a step in the right direction.  Color me curious.

At this point in safety requirements and reliability and interior quality expectations, I'm guessing it's pretty hard to get a car with a real drivetrain and a roof under 3000 without a bunch of exotic materials. I don't love the styling (except the rear) but it blows the supra out of the water. If it's the same weight and power and price like most indications seem to be so far...and actually drives well, that's going to be a big win.

The pedestrian impact rules really limit what designers can do with the front.  sad
