It looks like there were two paths to follow. The other path, the one BMW didn't take was the more subdued one, the path that wasn't as over-the-top.

It's not that it needs to redone completely, just melted in an oven long enough to soften it up.

I like it a lot. The grill might be a little overdone but otherwise damn that's cool. Wonder if the passenger would burn themselves on the exhaust constantly?

I'd rock one in black, but beautiful it's not.

It looks like one of those Gran Turismo Concept cars they offer in GT6.

The whole BMW winged thing was introduced just to beat the box flaired Capri's... which BMW couldn't seem to beat...... at least not very often in 1971, and 1972.......

The wrap-over front fenders are ugly, most of the rear is ugly...still better than most of Bangle's work though.

I like it as a tribute design exercise.

It looks like turnabout is fair play. Remember in the 80s or 90s when BMW got all pissy with Pontiac for using their "trademark" twin mini-grille nose? BMW is now using Pontiac's "trademark" butt-ugly plastic body cladding.

There's so much hate for this everywhere I've seen on message boards and social media. I like it. It's the first BMW design that I've really dug in awhile. I really like the side view of it.

Meanwhile, 99.9999999999% of the people who say they hate it will never buy one, anyway.

Hideous. The best thing about it is, it'll be easily totaled and thus a source of drivetrain upgrade parts. Let the shell die, please.

I don't hate it. I just don't see the homage element. The CSL was outrageous because it had to be for practical reasons. If the apendages that pass for styling on this car have any real value besides being a fight of fancy, I don't know what it is.

My immediate response was negative. The front end is a bit over the top for my tastes, at least for a street car.

As a design exercise, I think its pretty interesting. All the signature BMW design language is there from the grill to Hofmeister kink. As an homage to a race car, they seem to have incorporated aero elements that are mix of the original car and recent German touring car practice. Here are couple of recent BMW racing coupes.

Its an interesting way to build something instantly recognizable as BMW and step a little outside the normal BMW styling box.

the back half is amazing, the front half needs work but has potential.

If someone gave me one I'd rock it, but I'd much rather have a pristine E9. They are one of my dream cars.

It doesn't look like they have really changed the shape that much. The stripes over white definitely draw your eyes front to back and create sense of flow that wasn't there in the single color version. Its big step in the right direction.

I am still the same place I was before, as a design exercise, its really interesting and I applaud BMW for experimenting with different ways to approach their established design language. I also appreciate them for putting out there where we all can comment on it. I don't know if I could do better.

The ///M livery looks SO much better than it did in yellow.

I like it but instead of yellow I would have done an Art Car paint scheme, probably the alexander calder one.
