Kevin Adolf was there shooting for us. We'll have something in a future issue of Classic Motorsports. Looks like an awesome event.

It was pretty cool. Very obvious that it was only round 2 for these folks, organization is still getting there and the event is growing, but I expect to see this one become a marquee event for the east coast in the coming years. Just a few wrinkles to iron out and some better marketing and this thing is going to blow up.

A buddy of mine was there. Anybody get shots of a jalopy A roadster pickup with 57 on the sides and grill?

if i was to guess from the pics, it involves people dressed up like extras from West Side Story with doo wop music and the occasional Social Distortion song thrown in for good measure...

I don't seem to have that one in my pics but I'll go through the wife's shots tonight and see if she got it.

Short answer, vintage hot rods racing on the beach.

Eight mile drag races on the beach. Cars need to be pre-35, period correct hotrods and motorcycles need to be tank shifters.

I believe you meant to say Eighth mile. An eight mile drag race would be awesome though :)

Only drawback is running an 8 mile drag race on the Wildwood beaches would require pontoons. I think the whole island is only 6 miles long.

So awesome. Last year I was on a bike ride with my friends and we kept seeing all these old rods down around Asbury Park. Someone mentioned a "race on the beach". My response: "GTFO, they'd never get permission to do that!"

I rode by two blocks from the action and didn't have a clue. Arrrgghhh!!

They'd have to turn around and come back :) Actually my wife was very disappointed that they didn't turn around at the end. For some reason she had visions of the race scene from Grease in her head and just assumed it was down and back.

They struggled to get permission from Wildwood (which is why it was up north last year) After proving they could run a good event up there Wildwood decided to let it happen this year. Nothing against the other NJ beaches but Wildwood has such a large beach it is really ideal for the event. The organizers really did a great job of keeping things clean and orderly. All participants were given cookie sheets at sign up, if the car wasn't actively on the track it had to have the cookie sheet under its engine to keep oil off the beach.
