At just about every event I see or hear about some act of generosity from the racer community whether it's the GRM crew donating bits of their squashed Miata so another could stay in the race or a story shared by somebody like Mike or Walter. This morning a guy on the friends of triumph board gave[/] away a round tail spitfire so others could go racing. I'd rather hang out with you people than the best folk in the world

I don't race, but I hpde a lot.
I agree, the people you meet in the paddock are the best part about it.
The only other group that can touch them for helpfulness are the people I meet here, and on the Bimmerforums E21 forum.
Agreed. My best friends are the ones I met through racing.
Same here! And you don't have to even be at the race track!
Several years ago I was on the way to a race when a rear bearing on my PU failed suddenly. I was stuck on the side of the interstate with a trailer and race car plus the PU. I called for a tow but before the tow arrived a fellow racer I knew stopped and asked "what's up? Once I explained he said to unhook my trailer and he would haul it to the track for me! I sent my nephew along as I had three other people with me. I got the truck towed off the highway and then sourced a used axle and new bearing and made it to the track later that day and raced the next.
Hear hear, I recall my kart breaking down and someone lending me their kart free of charge. I myself have lent people engines, parts, ect... the community is what makes racing great.

My first track day with WDCR-SCCA at Summit Point, my power steering pump locked up. The power steering belt also runs the water pump on my car, so I couldn't just cut the belt. I called my brother two and a half hours away to come get me, and started looking for a U-haul place to rent a trailer from when he got there. I asked a dude if he knew where there was a phone book, and he asked me what I needed. After I told him what I was up to, he said, "Hell, I'll tow you home."
After he was done driving for the day, he loaded up his big trailer, and we took it to his house a half hour away, and got the little trailer. He then hauled my broken car from Summit Point to Altoona, PA, and I had to practically force him to let me fill his truck with fuel for the trip home.
Needless to say, I love those guys.
