Any updates?
LOL Congrats on the Wedding.
I have gotten approval to do car things again, we are celebrating our 20th anaversery next June so really he ddoesn't have that long to wait.
actually i have mounted the radiator - a 65 mustang v8 unit was the best fit i could find without being a too small honda unit. the brake lines are all run. i'm going to buy new calipers tomorrow and i'm about to order a new distributor, i borrowed the one in it for the vette.
my buddy dropped off a pair of 15x8 chevy truck rally wheels for the rear so i'm going to look for some cheap 275/60's to replace the temporary dry rotted snow tires. i'm by the grace of slow suppliers off tomorrow and half of thursday and friday and i intend to get alot of stuff done on the truck. i will not make $09 because work is too busy and cash is going toward honeymoon in december. i do plan to have the truck at $2010 - i still do not anticipate having more than $1500 in it. i got a free rear sway bar the other day as well.
my worst fear right now is i cannot get the inboard starter bolt started in the block so i need to pull the starter and hope someone didn't bugger up the threads too badly at some point.
i'll get some pics of some new things shortly and post them.
Dude, it's a truck.
Throw the fenders/hood in the bed, strap them down, and they will most assuredly be "present on the car" (rule #8).
Sometimes you just need to READ the rules, and NOT interpret them at all!
This is completely awesome. I would love to see the full pic essay. You should haul it to the challenge just because you will get an appreciative audience even if you can't compete. (I say that having never even attempted to participate so nevermind - its the whiskey talkin')
Now, I have to ask - what in the hell is that red thing sitting on your other truck? Did you make your own cap?
no i sucks at the internet, i havent built a website in years. i'm going to attempt to turn the readers rides section on this truck into a build chronicle, however i'm backed up with bunches of pics on the camera and more desire to be outside working on it. i'm sure when it gets cold i'll spend more time in the house.
on the s10 there is a very nice aftermarket fiberglass cap, it just has no windows on the sides. i picked up the cap on craigslist for $75 and it was mint and the truck has marroon pinstriping so we put it on and left it be. then the truck got totalled by deer. it's my dads truck - it was mine for 20 minutes, i brought it home (its a really nice little truck) and he traded me the vette for it. he was out in PA returning from a kayaking trip and creamed a deer at 65- still had temp tags on it. he got a monster chunk of cash from the insurance co and they let him keep it so we put about $500 into rebuilding it and now its back on the road.
Patgizz, i will volunteer to take the truck down to the challenge
I haev those gauges for you too...i forgot about em...my bad
here are some update pics - i dropped in the fancy new distributor today, picked up the new rear tires friday evening(275/60/15 firehawks going on free 15x8 chevy truck rally wheels), and in general i cleaned up the garage so i could work on things. i got a free brand new drill press a few weeks ago so i put that together. i also put the drivers side rocker panel on the truck today - it really points out how much rusted off the bottom of the door. i'm almost done with the braking system as well, keep waiting on a deal on front calipers to pop up.
new fat rear meats
here's a glimpse of the stock car under the truck
super score on the brand new firehawks in 275/60/15
traded bumper and header panel off the about-to-be-scrapped P71 parts car for a set of 4 15x6 chevy van rally wheels that match the 15x8 rears so i have my front wheels.
might find another pair of 15x8's for the other 275's just so i can run wide all around sometimes.

insert insanely evil laugh here - IT'S ALIVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
muahahahahahaha
i worked on wiring last night with some reclaimed harness and the original ignition switch from the belair. i was able to toss on some fugly yellow obligatory accel super stock wires, hook up battery, shoot starting fluid, turn key, and i'll be damned but the thing fired right up.
i'm putting together my shopping list for the fuel supply. have a new ebay pump and regulator, used fuel cell, a rusty old canister filter that needs a new element. so i need some hose and steel line to go between all that and the cheap rebuilt edelbrock 750 i picked up.
open headers make me all warm and fuzzy inside
i'll post some video when i have fuel system done to run it without spraying stuff in the carb
I was just thinking of this project...so I figured I'd post and ask if you have done anything to it lately...
I can haz update on awesome?
Clem
Thanks, Clem. I forgot how insanely jealous this build makes me.
Pat, please - let me live vicariously through your exploits.
you guys are killing me its. on hold right now due to the Impala SS and 4X4 astro project. the truck got less important when Carli got pregnant. It maybe on the backburner for a couple years, or it may make a debut at $2011 or $2012 depends on where money is and how much car time a kid eats up
You'll need to log in to post.
