The Enterprise Rent-a-Car location in Oshawa ON (home of the Camaro, and a very blue-collar town) has a silver 3-Series for rent today. Little green & white bumper sticker and everything. Overall, is this a good thing or a bad thing? Discuss.
I guess this is on my mind because the latest batch of BMW ads in the newspaper talk a lot about the sunroof but don't mention the engines once.
The Enterprise down the street from my house has a lot full of things like Chevy Aveos, so having the opportunity to rent a BMW would be a nice alternative. Chances are it doesn't go for $29/day, though.
With owning a 7-series I've driven everything short of the M and Z cars over the last 3 years as service loaners. The engines may not be mentioned because they don't sell cars but BMW still makes the ultimate driving machine. The 328i with the NA motor is smooth and powerful enough but not particularly fast, but it has the usual ride/handling combo that BMW is famous for. The 335i is a screamer either with the former twin-turbo 6 or the current single turbo 6. I just gave back a 535i and between the turbo engine and the 8(!) speed transmission it was sneaky fast. Light throttle pressure turned into a quick creep from 65-90+ more than once. The fact that the heads up display wasn't visible with my polarized sunglasses didn't help. The 550GT is an ugly beast but a beast nonetheless - twin turbo V8 in essentially a tall 5-series wagon, stupid fast.
