The ones that don't are dead...

You beat me to it.

There was some terrible, more then likely untrue, statistic that I heard from a dodge engineer that new owners of vipers had a 10% chance of wrecking the car in the first month.

If they went past that the car would last basically forever. I always thought he was full of it but if you look at the number of times most vipers change hands and the amount of salvage vipers in the wild it seems true.

Also fell like a terrible person, today I caused a accident on the freeway when someone was looking out the window at my car and plowed into the back of a F350 at about 30mph. Truck looked fine but the G35 that hit it look likes a writeoff.

Not your fault that he couldn't look where he was driving. A Viper isn't even an unusually large distraction.

In the San Francisco Bay area, we have gotten a fair of amount exotic machinery at local autocrosses. We also used to have a bunch really good drivers that autocrossed very modified Toyota Starletts and RWD Corolas. I used to refer them collectively as the "ego test". When someone showed up in his new Ferrari, Porsche Lotus, Corvette or Viper, how he reacted to getting his ass handed to him by a Starlett told you quickly what kind of person you were dealing with. Most turned out to be pretty down to earth.

We had a regular Ferrari at our auto-x in San Diego. He definitely knew how to drive. Now he just drives his son's Turbo Sprite. You may have seen them topping the podium at every single Nationals for the last few years

One day at a practice we had a random husband/wife show up in an F430 Spider and CTS-V. Once we decided to let them drop in on the fun, wifey ran home and swapped out her Caddy for her Lambo. Not fast times and the husbands ego probably shrank a bit more when wife bested him. Happened to see them driving home from Vegas a few weeks later. Both in separate cars running their own BullRun against each other. Must be nice

One of my customers works for an investment company. Daily drives an M5, races a spec e30, was shopping for a new tow vehicle when we met. He came by the dealership one night and mentioned he'd just ordered a 1M and would be picking it up in Germany and going to MFest courtesy of his friend who works for ///M. Shows up with the car one night and tossed me the keys. One of the nicest people I've ever met.

Just found this Jerry Seinfeld quote tonight:

"I have this old ’57 Porsche Speedster, and the way the door closes, I’ll just sit there and listen to the sound of the latch going, cluh-CLICK-click. That door! I live for that door. Whatever the opposite of planned obsolescence is, that’s what I’m into."
