Does anyone know how to calculate the amount of torque it would take to break a thermal press fit?

At work we measure empirically because it's tough to do theoretically. Basically, you need to know how much force the thing is going to exert when it cools. This will be highly dependent on the geometry of the thing you're press fitting. We use Solidworks Simulation for this task. Then you just multiply by the coefficient of friction of the two materials.

This is for thermally pressed on brake discs on passenger locomotives, so the geometry is super important.

In this case, it will be a straight bar into a rod.
