Electricity doesn't scare me. I've worked with voltages up to 30k. You just have to be careful.

It apparently takes 200k amps to pop a 5000 amp fuse instantly. He's building a capacitor bank to put out that amperage at 3000 volts. That is terrifying. That is an insane amount of power.

That guy has a great youtube channel.  Highly recommended for most anyone, especially if you have any sort of design or engineering bent.

Voltage doesn't scare me. Amps do. When you see the ground glow white from the machine you just had your hand on  seconds before chopping through a mismarked 4400 line, well, yeah, you tend to be cautious.

Here's a good one.  You know its a good one cause it starts out with him completely bypassing the fuse in the system

Also, everyone has seen this one, even if you didn't know it was from him

On the 20,000W lamp test, at 6:10 when he is testing it inside he mentions that the camera is on an automatic setting that compensates for the light.  Look at his little lamp up in the top right of the room before he turns it on and then when its running.  It doesn't dim, the camera just compensates that much for the lamp's output.

If I remember watts law correctly, that 15000kW. Anyone want to convert that to joules for me?

It's s really big number!!!

Watts are a measurement over time.  1W = 1J/s

That "Motor and PCB Pop" is pretty wild; his last run made a full plasma arc around the brushes and commutator there, and it only failed because the brush melted.

This guy makes me think of styropyro.

Not quite enough detail for my tired old brain. Is P = I x V not accurate? I know Whr (or is it W/hr? Bit fuzzy there) adds the over time element, but 3kV x 5kA, should be the Watts?

I'm qualified up to 440Vac, but normally only work with 24Vdc, 4-20mA, so power in those levels is strictly theoretical for me!

So, I berkeleying hate electricity.  I barely passed Intro to Electrical Systems in college.  That being said:

Ampere: 1 Coulomb per sec = 1C/s

Volt: potential/charge = J/C

So, P = I x V = C/s * J/C = C*J/s*C and the Coulomb units cancel out and you get J/S, or 1 Watt

This is for DC current.  AC current is a weird beast that can go jump in a lake

I gotta get up to go to work on days to tomorrow, in 4 hrs. Can't sleep. But WAY to tired to follow all that! Sadly, it's my fault for asking, and then being insane enough to see if you answered.

I was ok till C*J/s*C...

AC theory is ok; three faze threw me for many years (my theory classes in the late 70's were electronics, more so than electrical - subtle difference, I know) and my dad was one of the best electrical theory instructors that ever lived. surprise but one day, during a motor operated valve class in 2001, the instructor (a great mechanic, only parroting electrical info) drew a seal in circuit, and three faze finally clicked! Happy day for me.

Glad to see there was no resistance to him coming back onto the grid.
