I e-mail someone that has a craigslist posting for a bunch of power tools, one of which is a Bosch corded sawzall, because I want a sawzall. I get an answer back:

"Sorry, the Bosch sawzall is gone. I have a -some other random brand- cordless one though..."

So I say: "Oh, thanks anyway, anything cordless I own always seems to die after 3 minutes of use." I also signed my name (Jeff) at the end of the e-mail.

The response: "Ah but this one has a 24 volt lithium ion battery, it runs forever. You NEED this, Jeff. Trust me."

If that isn't GRM-style enabling, I don't know what is. You NEED this tool capable of incredible destruction, ha! I may just buy it because of that. And I honestly don't like cordless tools.

Do you buy things off TV often, Jeff?

My 18 volt lithium ion powered Sawzall lasts at least 15 minutes of cutting up iron for scrap before the battery dies.

Lasts much longer when I'm cutting up things it was built to cut. I have a super sawzall, but I'll be damned if that cord doesn't make it a pain in the ass to use when I'm in a field.

I'd say grab it, if it works like crap, you can always sell it on craigslist.

I've got a L-ion PC recip saw, that thing is a beast, and it's only 18v. I can only imagine how wicked a 24v one would be.

Lolz! Ya gotta love tools of mass destruction. I used my Sawzall to literally hack my old 73 Hornet into pieces. Damn thing went through the steel like it wasn't even there!

My father used it to cut a car in half, mostly because Milwaukee said it would. He also used it to convert a fullsize van into a flatbed. I'm pretty sure this thing is older than me and shows no sign of wearing down.

My Ryobi is nice, and works well, but I doubt it would go through the roof of a rotted subcompact before the battery/motor died.

This + a fire & rescue blade = WIN! It will cut through a forklift, and I don't mean just the fork.

Interesting how Milwaukee's Sawzall became the catch all name for any reciprocating saw.

Quicker to say than reciprocating saw.

That is the ultimate sign of market success. Up here a lot of people call snowmobiles Ski-Doo's regardless of what brand they are.

The kleenex effect.

A reciprocating saw is high on my list of things to source, just as soon as I have a garage to call my own... hand tools until then!

Kleenex, Sawzall, Jet-Ski, Xerox (though this one has fallen out of use), and Coke all come to mind.

I used a cordless Bosch sawzall to cut a 914 in half once... It took three battery charges to complete the job.

Other than that, I have nothing more to add.

I used a Sawzall and the 12" long blades to cut an Accord up into hand tossable pieces. That was a lot of fun.

probably the most famous would be Plexiglas... at one time it was a brand name ...

that's why so many companies are so vigilant and so ass-holy about the use of their named product to refer to someone else's product .... the bar where I worked served pepsi products ... if someone asked for a rum and coke we were required to ask if pepsi was ok ... we didn't, but the Coke lawyers could have sued us

Lowes, Home Depot, etc... Beware though, if you bounce the tip off of something YOU bounce and break, not the blade.

SCC.

Hotrod did it twice with Caddy-Hack and recently Vette-Hack.

I just finished cutting up a huge maple tree in my back yard with my saw-zall. Used the saw instead of the chainsaw mostly because I was too scared to use a chainsaw 50 feet up in the air while trying to hold onto the tree at the same time. I would tie off the rope above where I was cutting and tie the other end to the back of my truck. Cut most of the way thru the trunk and pushed a wedge into the cut to make sure it fell where I wanted it to. Hop in the truck and drive away. Cut away 10 feet or so at a time. It's amazing how fast a 12 inch demo blade cuts thru tree branches. All 5 of the 24 inch round spires are down, now just need to deal with the base which is around 5 feet in diameter and 8 feet tall.

I think that may be trademarked by the U.S. Marine Corps.

On topic, I've got a ten pack of the "AX" blades. Good for precision destruction.
