You mention Woodstock Honda on page 4.
It's totally "Woodstock Honda." You should write "Woodstock Honda" a letter. Anti-stance or somebody brought that up, and I confirmed their suspicion. I didn't "mention" E36 M3.
Listen: If I have to get "Nasty" you'll know it. Names. Phone numbers. Addresses. Etc. Right now I'm cool as a berkeleying cucumber. Please stop poking the bear.

Wow, I just read this entire thing and I am glad of two things.
1- I tend to void warranties because shenanigans.
2- I dislike Hondas a great deal, and you've not instilled a lot of faith in their dealer kin, either.
3- You should still come to MN so we can drink and eat hot wings at the Pirate Bar.

Indeed, with me band maties, wife & kid in tow. I'm bound and determined to have the chicken & biscuits at the Top again.
On topic: On the way home I was thinking about how a 69 911 is a totally reasonable DD. I berkeleyed up not buying that car when I had the chance! ;)
Agreed, I'll be in MN next week and I'll even buy the first round if you show.

Tour was cancelled. It's the black cloud that follows me wherever I go.
Or, more likely, I'm just a berkeleying big shady liar and either sabotaged the tour or just told you guys I was in a band so you'd think I was cool. Bummer. I'd totally planned on cutting a brake line on the van so we'd get some of that sweet Dodge $$$.

I don't think you are a liar or thief, I think you sound reasonable. You thought the used transmission was a reasonable solution, now you don't. Why? Would you expect a new car if they wrecked the old one? They are not trying to put in a transmission with 100,000 miles. They are saying if you have any transmission issues, they will stand behind it, you want them to say someone else will stand behind it. The dealer broke it, the dealer will pay for it now, and later if there is an issue.
If they wrecked the 2011 Fit and offered you another 2011 Fit, would you demand that Honda Corporate give you a 2014?
If they said they can rebuild the old one, would that be good enough?
Only you know what will make you happy, if you push for a new one and they say no way, what then?
I'm afraid you're still not getting it. His transmission is currently covered by a HONDA warranty.
That's the only way to make him whole. The end.
"Betterments" as they're called in the insurance business do not apply to warranties.
Oh and as I've pointed out three times now.
"They made the stupid mstake while defrauding him"
I'm still trying to figure out how a TUB gets damaged by SMOKE.
Poop: good luck. I don't live far away and have been debating which of the nearby Honda dealers I should call for a new recall item on my van. I will anxiously await the end of this situation.
The original Honda Carland seems to have a decent reputation. I dunno man. That's all I got.

Correct. Allowing them to install a used transmission means the new transmission is no longer covered under the Honda warranty.
So, unlessyou never leave your little town, the service manager never changes and the used trans doesn't suck you'll be fine.
Why is this so frickin hard to understand? This isn't asking for hte moon. This is asking that his new car STAYS COVERED UNDER THE HONDA WARRANTY.

Trying to keep a somewhat similar story short - I (uninformed - my fault) bought a new '09 WRX that ended up having the silver-bearing problem. When I discovered engines failing left and right (rod knock/blow up!) I did oil and filter analysis at the first recommended change - 3750 miles. Sure enough - massive levels of silver in both oil and filter. Despite the evidence of a pending disaster they would do nothing. Got on a first name basis with President of Subaru N.A. in NJ. Sure enough - 18 months and 21,000 miles later it let go.
Brand new engine (not reman or used), brand new turbo, flat bed tow, rental -- all paid for by them. But I insisted on and they agreed to a 'platinum level' mechanical insurance policy -- basically warrantying the driveline for 7 years/100k miles. That might be an approach you'd want to take. Working with the dealer was a TOTAL waste of time. All my efforts were focused on the manufacturer's customer service org and the Regional Technical Mgr.
And once they repaired the car, I sold it immediately with a full disclosure to the buyer. He was thrilled - flawless 25k mile car with brand new engine, turbo and 7 yr/100k mile (transferable) warranty. Every chance I get, and lots of people ask for my input on car purchases, I steer them away from that make. And every time I do - I send another letter to my buddy's at Subie N.A. to remind them what happens when they don't do the right thing in the first place.
I remember you from NASIOC's "2009 WRX's are Piles of Bearing Spinning Garbage" thread!!!
What an ordeal.
The one I had just missed the bad batch of cranks by about a week. Too bad they didn't do anything else right on that car. I had that same warranty, and when push came to shove, they didn't want to actually cover anything important, do be glad you got out of it when you did. The only saving grace of having that is that my dealer trade-in number was super high because of that useless warranty.
Poopy, I hope this all gets sorted out soon for you. What a suck fest.

Ok, so if Honda says the used one will be covered at any Honda dealer, it's fine, or will people still say he needs a new one?
It can't be. Period. Ask me how I know. Go ahead.
Lol. Bob is posting from a desk at a large Honda dealer.

A new replacement transmission from Honda is a known quantity. A "low mileage" used transmission is not.
Very simple.
Just like they used to make it...

Bingo. Been working for Hondar now for almost 9 years. Dealing with warranty and Customer pay as well as wholesale and internet. You can not install a used part and expect Honda to honor the warranty. Honda Corporate will tell you to go fly a kite.
My mind is blown that people are suggesting used parts are an acceptable replacement.
Would you accept a used throwout bearing for your clutch if it grenaded? Used axles? Brake pads?
Get your E36 M3 together guys; warranty work means new parts, plain and simple, or REBUILT parts. But not used. They are trying to save themselves money by screwing poop out of warranty AND not involving Honda headquarters. Screw that noise. He was happy about the initial response because he didn't know better, as the response is unacceptable and they are not making it "right".

Working as a car salesman does not make you an expert on what Honda corporate can, and has done before.

Hey, Datsun, Bob? We get it. Your positions are both well understood. Some of us think one of you is an idiot, some of us think the other is. The rest just want to hear about Mike's transmission.
Hey Mike, how's the status?

Nope, just to you. Since you do work the back end, you should know this is not a warranty claim and does not require new parts.
Which I have stated over and over. This is a shop issue. They are required to install parts that will keep his factory warranty intact. Installing a used transmission does not fulfill that.
Why do you not understand that?

^^^this^^^
FWIW, I don't think bob or datsun are idiots. Again, I understand both sides of the argument. I don't understand the dealership not erring on the side of customer satisfaction over what I'm guessing is a few hundred bucks.
Tuna: Spoke to the woman from Honda last night. Said she'd call the dealer first thing this morning and get back to me. Missed a call from the dealership this morning, and they didn't leave a voicemail. If I don't hear back from the woman from Honda soon, I'll give the dealership a call - not sure who called me. GM or SM, as there was no voicemail, but the call came 25 hours after the SM left a voicemail saying "give me a call back, or I'll try you back later." (I called him back at lunchtime and again said explicitly that was uncomfortable with putting used parts in the car and why) and 36-ish hours after I left the last voicemail for the GM.
Bob: Hate to ask a favor from a stranger, but any advice fo' a brutha? Am I handling it as I should thus far?
My biggest concern at this point is that they're going to say "Well, you said you thought the used transmission was reasonable, so that's what we did." I was honest and up front about that with the woman from Honda yesterday. I hope it doesn't come back to bite me. If it does, look for a Honda Fit with a NEW.....err.....USED transmission up for sale in the next few days.

Well I don't have a dog in this fight so my opinion don't mean squat. But, I can see both points of view. I think where the heart of the issue lies is where the work was done. If this was an independent shop that did this, then making the OP "whole" would require a replacment or repair of the transmission, nothing more. They could pull it out and rebuild it, or replace it with a good used unit and be done with it. But since the shop is a "Factory authorized" dealer, it would seem to me that in order not to have the factory warranty inadvertently voided by an agent of the factory, a new transmission must be installed, as the factory warranty will not cover installation of a used one. Just my .02.. Edited for clarity
Keep up with Honda Corporate. That's the best you can do when dealing with a subpar dealer like this. Make as much of a stink as possible with them. Reiterate WHY you bought the car and WHY you had it dealer serviced. Remind them you are a valued customer.
That's all you can do. In my experience, Honda will likely put pressure on the dealer involved and get you taken care of.
