I used a N/O & N/C solenoid valve plumed inline on my old Speedaire's drain.

In this order, Tank Drain - N/C solenoid - N/O solenoid

N/C solenoid energized and opened with the pressure switch, N/O solenoid was on a ~5 second delay with a timed relay, so it'd close a short time after the N/C had opened, and blew water out every time the compressor turned on.

Worked good for several years, but it was a very, very, used, worn, pawn shop compressor when I bought it, and the tank eventually developed a pin hole leak.

I see my thread got bumped by a canoe.

Anyway, I replaced the frozen pressure gauge and replaced the drain valve with a flexible line that has a valve on the end that you just squeeze to drain the tank.  Simple, cheap, easy to use, and easy to reach.

Also, this compressor is sooo much quieter than my old oilless compressor.
