They're going to run the 2J, and I don't think I can get down there.

From: Luanne Thornton [lthornton@petroleummuseum.org]

Subject: The 2J is running!

The Chaparral 2J will be driven Friday, July 17th around 5:30 p.m. at The Petroleum Museum. The 2J will run for approximately 10-20 minutes in the front circle. The running of the Chaparrals is part of the routine maintenance to keep the cars in running condition.

Please enter through the Visitor Center entrance which is east of the Museum’s entrance. (The Museum entrance will be closed off.) Please feel free to come early and walk back to the garage to see it getting prepped for the drive. If you have any questions call Ronnie Low at 432-528-9999.

Please check your e-mail before you come to be sure we are still a go. If you do NOT hear from me, we ARE running!

Please feel free to forward this e-mail to any interested persons you know.

Hope to see you here!

Luanne

Pretty is as pretty does.

But, yeah, it's not so pretty.

To go, I"d have to take off two hours early and make a two-hour drive in a non-AC car in expected 101F weather. The drive back wouldn't be so bad.

There is a chance of a thunderstorm that evening. If it came early, it would cancel the run. A shower cancelled the 2E run.

Still, it would be cool ...

Straight down 20 from me, I am sorely tempted. It looks to be a couple of hour drive.

Pretty is as pretty does. But, yeah, it's not so pretty.

Tis better to make judgements on performance rather than appearance. Not so different from some of the women you've met, but may have ignored!

Unlike some of the "prettier" competition in 1970, the 2J completely out-classed the factory McLarens or Lolas of the day - regardless of the driving talent.

I had the pleasure of seeing the car in real action (Rd Atl, 1970) and the car just walked away from everyone else in the corners.

Awesome doesn't have to be beautiful.

Oh I completely agree, in fact, I brought up this car in the thread a while back about the FWD car with a wing on it's hood setting track record to support my point. Function over form. I was simply stating that the car is by no means, "a looker."

Function over form - great design philosophy from Bucky Fuller.

To paraphrase an old saying - "pretty race cars are rarely as fast as they look". Unless it's a Ferrari 312P!

I'm just happy they're actually running the cars every once in awhile. I wish the press releases came out a little further in advance...I'd make that trip to see the 2F run. That was a very important car to me as a kid. Southern Boy, sportscar fan, etc.

Because then we would take up all of the GRM drive space and while drive space on your computer at home is cheap, drive space on a server is not.

Go to http://www.photobucket.com and sign up for a free account.

Takes a couple of seconds to do and once you verify the account and sign back in,

Upload the pictures you want to share up there.

Once uploaded, click on the the picture you want to post.

on the left hand side there is a section with 4 options.

Highlight the text in the direct link option, right click with your mouse and choose copy.

Open the GRM forums and open the thread you want.

In the area where you post a reply, click on the camera icon above the smiley faces.

The camera icon is the 5th one from the left.

Once the little window opens, click on the area where you type, then right click again and choose paste.

This will paste the text you copied from the photobucket website into the field.

Click OK.

Add any text you want to the post and then click on Add Post. If it doesn't work, you can ask us for help and edit the post to correct any issues.

Good luck!

Saw Stewart drive the 2J at the Watkins Glen CanAm, 1970. In practice just before the race, somebody blew an engine in The 90 and they threw down a couple of sacks of Oil-Dri to clean up the mess. There was still a lot of it on the track surface after they were finished. When they pulled in the yellow flag and started running hot laps again, the 2J sucked up the dust and shot it out the fans in the back, making it look like a rocket blasting off, an absolutely spectacular sight.

I'm on the email list for the museum. That email was sent Tuesday. Still, a little more notice would be nice. I've already taken off too much for doctors, dentists, et cetera this month to be comfortable taking off this afternoon.

But I WANT to go!

Yeah, I saw your other post about having to drive that far in the heat. Here's hoping they still want to do this kind of thing in September.
