This may be the most important upgrade you make using the remaining budget after purchase. 20+ year old car speakers are generally in rather terrible shape. Even $29 base model pioneers (still no paper) should be a nice improvement.

Almost any cheap new name brand speaker is miles better than a blown out 20+ year old factory speaker. 

 

But I keep having to relearn that lesson on my vehicles.   I keep putting up with garbage rattling speakers because I don't want to buy a $150 upgrade. You'd think that I would know better by now, but I'm running factory speakers in the K-Wag and Slushy The Auto SW2 hating the crappy speakers.

I definitely agree that good sounds are worthwhile.
