So a friend just offered me a S2000 with all the functional bits in good shape but no body. For a song. It strikes me that while it's exciting, I'm not over the moon with joy. Why? Because in a world of electric sedans that can smoke most muscle cars in the 1/4 mile, where some SUVs are faster than all the cars that I grew up with, where a 3.7 liter V6 is good for over 300 HP, and a turbo 2.5 will play with the V8s, a high-reving, low-torque motor just isn't so special any more.
It's kinda awesome and it's kinda sad. Like looking at pictures of your college sweetheart and seeing her flaws, not just her allure.
Just musing.
Me and many other folks here will take that s2000 off your hands. If for nothing else they are awesome TT cars! And just awesome all around.
I was driving my 2005 Mustang GT today and thinking about this same problem. It's got 325hp, over 300ftlbs of torque, and turns 0-60 in 5 sec flat. These days it's an also-ran compared to the new stuff. But it still sounds good, gets sideways easily, and puts a smile on my face every time.
I've had the thought that it's kind of like an overgrown miata. 325hp V8 that's a momentum car compared to the new stuff.
Theres always someone faster. But not always someone funner.

i don't know how or why this turned into an 86 versus S2K debate, but there is an answer...
You, good sir or madam as the case may be, are culturally deprived.
Let us consult the Book of Shigeno, Initials D, 4:22-4:24.
I'd rather have a slow car that feels fast, than a fast car that's too fast to fully use on the street.
