A free replacement for a 6 year old tire? They should have made you keep quiet about that as a condition of the deal, lest everyone else with aged-out tires blowing start asking for free ones.

In reply to Vigo :

They go by purchase date, not manufactured date, so 5 years and 5 months old tire that was still under their warranty against defects. So, not an aged out tire.

They got off cheap. I bought 3 new tires, had to get the parking brake cable reattached and now have a smushed tailpipe and quarter panel.

I am happy that they did anything for me at all. Thumbs up for Michelin.

I'm glad you got a happy ending.

Well, i for one was not aware that ANY tire manufacturer had a 6+ yr (what is it actually?) warranty against 'defects'. I would say if you expect your tires to be safe at 6 years and beyond you are definitely dealing with the right company. I would be shocked if any other company had done anything for you at all other than a goodwill 'its cheaper to give you a tire than lose you for life regardless of right/wrong' gesture. But if this is Michelin's actual policy and it doesn't depend on the discretion of whoever you end up dealing with, that's even better.  This is almost as good as Discount Tire's 'oh no you got a totally not-suspicous unrepairable puncture on a 2/32" tire covered by our road hazard warranty so we're giving you a new one' policy.

This is the problem with forums and Facebook car groups, people take one negative experience to be worth more than 10,000 positive ones. Sh!t happens.

The "Rota Wheel" syndrome....
