Tire question...

Will a 215/50-13 size tire fit on 13x5.5" wheels without looking ridiculous?

I assume you are talking about the Sumitomo HTR? It will fit, there will be bulge. If you are buying them used I would say go for it. If buying new go for the 195 or 205/60/13. Much better match for the rim.

We just ran both at the PBIR Lemons. The 205/60/13 had was on a 5.5 rim. Good grip and lasted pretty well. The 215/50/13 we ran on 13x7 rims. They were old and rock hard. Not great grip but predictable and long lasting.

I guess I was referring to the Sumitomo. I currently run 175/50-13 tires on the car now and they fit perfectly and ride great (car is not raced; just street driving). If there is significant bulge, then I'd rather not go that way and will stick with the 175/50's. Thanks.

There will be a pretty big bulge with the 215/50. Lots of RX7 people run them but report that the gearing is short on the highway and the sidewall is sort of squishy. They do look tough though.

If you check around the rx7club.com people pretty much only run the Sumi's on the 13's. The rims are 5.5". You can find pics of the 215, 205, 195.

If you can step up to the 60 series sidewall you will probably like width difference in the 185, 195, or 205. If not just stick with the 175's.

A lot of Capri owners run the Sumitomo 205/60 13s on the stock 5.5" wheels. I don't think I'd want to push it much further. I run the same size on my 13x8" wheels and it looks right at home there.
