I was checking Tire Rack today for the hottest tires for my upcoming auto-cross season. I want to get G-force Rivals (partly because no one in my region runs them), and Tire Rack only has 1 size for them. What gives? Has anyone heard of why? Lack of sales vs. Ventus RS3s and Direzza ZIIs?
I asked about the 225/45-15 size a while back and they hadn't been given a production date yet. It is the middle of winter, so hopefully there's a container full steaming towards Indiana right now.
Everyone that runs the RS-3 at here like them, and those are some damn quick cars. I haven't heard a single complaint. Those are probably what I'll put on my car once I pick up a second set of wheels.
I forget that other parts of the country have 'seasons' for AX. We have our second event of the year next weekend.
And we have rallycross next weekend. And I've already had a track day this month. Sorry about that whole winter thing.
That would play into the theory that there's a new compound imminent.
In reply to Keith Tanner: Even though it's winter, my next closest region has their first event in about a month! It's in Virginia, and there's no way it is warm there in February.
In reply to Mazdeuce: Wow, you must live south of SC because even the South Carolina Region just started their season two days ago. I personally like winter. It's nice and cold, football is going on now with the Super Bowl next week. I don't have to sweat every time I take a step outside, basketball season will actually matter in a few weeks. I also need an off-season from auto-cross because I need a better paying job.
The fact of the matter is that sales of summer tires drop off in that time of the year when the days are short. I know winter only exists in about three states in the US, but that's how it works. So companies like BFG plan their production accordingly. It's good to plan around this - if you will need a certain type of tire during a non-traditional period, buy ahead.

This is why I am likely ending up with RC-1s

We had a related discussion last week.

Seems there will be a number of new tires for 2015, thus low stock on current models shouldn't be a surprise.

Only negative of the RS3 (v1) is that they're useless when cold, don't know if the new RS3 v2 is different.
Many sizes of the RS-3s are on back order too. TireRack's site says May 1st on the size I need. I called them and they told me that that date was "optimistic". Craaaaaaaaap.
Son of a......I just checked on the size RS3 I need for One Lap and they say April 30? That's not going to work at all.
Sounds like there's money to be made by stockpiling these tires around late summer.
In reply to GameboyRMH:
There are several people that do just that. I found a specialty shop in California that bought a bunch of RS3s and are selling them now. I'm having to pay almost $100 over what TR wants for them all because I waited a week too long
Like Gameboy said, money to be made.
I just heard back from my contact at Tire Rack. No info on the Rival or the Toyo in the 225/45-15 size. RS3s are expected April 30 in that size, and probably others.
