Air racers in the 1948 Cleveland Air Races used Triptane as an octane booster, but they did not understand how to set up their engines or how much to use. All had engine problems. Promised was like 200 octane rating.

So if one were to mix say, 5 gallons of 90 octane and 5 gallons of 100 octane, is the result 10 gallons of 95 octane?   As in (90+100)/2 = 95?
