The TR4 was pretty crusty all over. The engine has been warmed over for vintage racing - now on to rejuvenating all sorts of other bits. Since it's a budget build I'm sticking with the carbs it came with - a pair of zenith stromberg 175 CDs. Similar to SU HS6 carbs in size/flow - just not quite as many options for tuning and tweaking. Webers or Mikuni flat sided carbs work better, but bump me up a class. The main goal for now is getting to a functional racer - still a long way to go. We'll worry about how fast it goes once it can actually move under its own power.
The linkage bits were crusty and stuck, plenty of varnish and in general neglect. The car has sat for the last 10 years. So we're starting off with master refurb kits. We'll up the jet sizes later. The carbs are pretty simple so mostly a matter of cleaning up the varnish, installing new jets for fuel and new needles/seats for air and a new diaphram. Process was disassemble everything, soaked them in mineral spirits for a couple of days. I soaked the steel parts in a rust remover (zep product) for 24 hours. New o rings and gaskets...and reassembled with a little machine oil in the mix. Also cleaned up the electrolytic crusties on the outside.

Next up we'll clean up the water pump and housing. It's cast iron and crusty inside. Going to try electrolysis with washing soda and a car battery charger.
