Yesterday, my son and I loaded up our Drag Week car from last year and took it to a local autocross, where he was able to run as a passenger for the first time. We had an absolute blast. I got a great video of his reaction to the thrill of autox on our first run.

The kid has potential!

My son's been autox'ing with me for about 3 years now. Race days have been some of the best dad/son days we've had together.

The funniest part was that when we were doing our walk throughs, I was explaining what the cones meant, looking ahead, choosing a line, etc. On one of my afternoon runs, I completely missed a gate...I didn't even see it. As I was passing it, Sean started yelling "Dad! You are going to miss one!" I thought he was wrong...until I finished and had no time to show for it. He later showed me what I missed. And he was right!

Last event, my son kept telling me I was entering an optional slalom on the wrong side. I finally listened to him and shaved a full second. Although I was thankful for the saved time, it came with the dreaded "I told you so".

It will be a few years before he hits the drag strip...but I'd be he'll do just fine. :-)

Haha I bet he was begging you for a ride-along for a long time leading up to that!

GRM Dad of the Year award goes to...... PAT! Nice job man. Getting kids involved in the car hobby is a good thing.

I don't have kids yet, but I do have two nephews aged 16 and 12. They are hopelessly addicted to cars, just like their uncle. The 16 year old asked me if he could tag along to the Challenge in a couple years. While I feel old, I think it would be pretty cool. We were talking about what he should get as his 1st car the other day.

The 12 year old has almost as many die-cast cars as I do, and I play him in Forza 4 online usually once a month. Last time, he was beating me in just about every race. He wanted to build a go-kart and started saving to do so, but I convinced him to keep saving to buy a project car instead. He also told me the other day that he got into a heated debate with classmates on the school bus about some muscle car they saw on the way to school.
