For the "top 10 great engine/chassis combos ruined by a slushbox", I submit "anything with less than 250 lbs of torque at the crank", followed by "anything with an engine designed to rev past 5500rpm".
isn't this a bit redundant? all cars with automatics are by definition ruined...

I would add any classic Saab 900 with the automatic transmission. The Saab 2 liter is reliable, torqey, good sounding, and highly turbo boostable, but you'd never know it with the unreliable, prone to being out of whack, slow shifting, high revving 3 speed automatic. I've had good 3 speed automatics, and what Saab used isn't one of them. The Saab 5 speed is much nicer.
well, that could bring yet another list. top 10 great engine/chassis combos ruined by a slushbox
First nomination: NEON
I would have another nimination for the best chassis in need of a better engine. I have a VW Corrado with the G60 engine. That car handles amazingly and has plenty of oomph, but I'm always scared to rev it in fear od the charger exploding and putting a hole in the hood. Now that car is dead with a bad auto transmission, I'm considering selling it but who noes...

didn;t C&D once put an odyessy up against an XK-E through a handling course.. and the van trounced the Jag?
Um, no. That was GRM and the Oddy trounced a classic 911 and the Jag. For shame thinking it was somebody else!
It was one of the "other" mags.. as I read the story when the Odyessy first came out and LONG before I knew about GRM
I refuse to believe that any mag other than GRm would have the balls to race a minivan against two classic sports cars.
That was one of my favorite articles of all times.
Does anyone know of a way to swap to a different transmission on an SHO?
The easiest way is to stick a T-5 behind it and weld the sucker into a Merkur XR4Ti...
