I'm thinking about ordering a new top for my 1999 Miata. It came with a hard top, as well as the original soft top (minus the rain rail). I'd like to add a soft top back into the mix. Rather than go to the trouble of installing the original top (17 years old now), I figured I would proceed with a new top. That said, I have no idea what to order or from whom. Please share your thoughts and experiences!
I actually haven't done that many, but the Robbins I installed a few years ago was excellent quality. I'd go there first.
Given that you're looking at something expected to last a couple of decades, I would shop by quality instead of price.

Robbins is the best but from there you have to decide if you want glass window, Zip out window, side window and other various options. I really enjoyed riding in my various Miata(I have owned 15 of them) with the rear window zipped out but the top up. However most top issues seem to involve the zipper unless it is damaged by a break in or other vandal. Do not get a glass window attached by a zipper; the weight of the glass will cause zipper failure.
I'd go for the OE style.
BTW, if you get a zippered top, it makes it really easy to get in if you don't have your keys
Thanks guys. Any vendor recommendations?
I'd really like one of these too, since I'll be installing a rollbar soon!
Bought my Robbins Panorama from Moss Miata when they were having a sale last year. It's still not on the car, but it's supposed to be a bigger back window than stock.
At least check with them, there might be a sale on now actually.
I checked. They are indeed having a sale right now. Unfortunately, Robbins tops do not qualify.

I just got my dad's Miata which had a Robbins top installed within the past year. The quality, fit, and finish are all fantastic and the material seems to be thicker and more durable than the OEM '05 Mazdaspeed soft-top I acquired for my other car.
