I tie my Fairmont down with j-hooks in holes in the k-member, with crossed straps at the front, and t-hooks in keyholes just in front of the lower control arm mounts with crossed straps on the rear. It looks like that's how it was designed to be tied down, but I really don't know for sure. It certainly appears to use fairly strong areas of the car.

It's fairly hard to damage a car with tie downs. The most creative damage I've seen is with people using a winch to secure the car. I watched a guy drop off an M3 at a dealer that he tied down throwing a hook on a rear suspension link and tugging with the winch until the differential housing mount popped free from the floor pan and tell the service writer it was like that, the owner was probably doing neutral drops or somethin'.

That's a good way to do it.
I saw a car on a trailer this morning that only had a single strap from left to right, through a single wheel on the front of the car, and loose enough to flap in the wind. Sketchy.
