Daughter wants to take a closer look at a '92 Celica convertible and use as a cheap dd. It's described as good condition, good top, rust free, working power windows, 126k, auto, doesn't say which engine(likely the 2.2 ?).
Does this gen Celica have any well known/common problems or trouble areas to look out for? This car likely has a timing belt vs chain? Looking for advice before we good look at it which is a couple hour drive from us.
In reply to drainoil:
Probably the 5SFE. DOHC, timing belt. Non-interference. Runs as long as there is oil in it.
Rust and ignitors. That's about it. Incredibly well-built cars, and pretty fun. If they're not automatics and/or convertibles.
Definitely the 5sfe. Verts were all GT spec, some had the System 10 audio.
With the 5SFE, change the O-ring behind the oil pump when you're doing a timing belt. Takes an extra 10 minutes. That's about the only weak spot.

Also, change the o-ring on the distributor.
My wife had a 92 GT when we got married. We sold it to a guy that had a truck and wanted something that got good gas mileage. At that point it had just under 300K miles on it. 2nd gear would grind if you rushed it, some rust starting on the rear wheel wells and it smoked a little at start up in the morning.
It was fun to drive and did not break so there is that, the only thing I did not like about it was I could not get comfortable in the seats.
