hmm...I'm going to plead guilty to that with my '90 Cherokee, which had some uber-thick winter/offroad rubber mats that had been put over (unknownst to me) the OEM floor mats. Accell got stuck as I was punching it getting on the highway and I almost ran into the back of a truck (XJs do get up there pretty good at WOT)....
Luckily it was a manual tranny so I clutched and killed the engine in one motion all while getting back over 2 lanes to the shoulder, and subsequently tossing the mats into the roof basket hoping they'd blow away into oblivion (they didn't).
had a sticking throttle for a while on my 76 civic, the spiral metal sheath was berzerkly up right where it went through the firewall... it was moving back and forth with the pedal position and hanging sometimes... we finally found the problem and screwed a bracket to the firewall that clamped the outer sheath so that only the cable inside could move... yea .. simple fix... after many weeks of searching ( it wouldn't do it's thing on command)
