That's pretty solid. It's as many BRZ's as Subaru was selling it it's best year. We'll see if the numbers keep steady.

That’s interesting since I’d been hearing cars sales were down.  I guess that had an excellent end of the year closeout.

Just so everyone can get a feel for the quantity of Supras sold in North America: 643 Supras as part of the 248k total vehicles sold in the month of August yields: 0.25% of just the North American sales.

Keep buying those sports cars or the numbers will get worse...

In reply to stafford1500 :

You can't compare Supras to F150's though. Copare Corvettes to Supras. In 2018 they sold 19k Corvettes. 25k in 2017. So they sell 1500-2k a month. If the supra can do half of Corvette sales it would be a smashing success.

Sorry, that was JUST FOR TOYOTAS in August. You are right though the demographics are different for the various models produced, but think of it in terms of energy required to sell those 643 vehicles compared to the other Toyotas. Also the first 1500 (I think) Supras are all "Release" models here in North America, so slightly more special and likely pricier. I had an opportunity to put my name down for one of the remaining "Release" models, but I have other stuff to spend that kind of money on.

Was august the first month they were readily available though?  And is "sold" describing retail sales, or from toyota to dealers stocking their lots?

I believe August was the first month the Supra was available for sale. I think that the number represents the numbers sold to customers, but I would have to verify that.

Yes. I think they technically went on sale like July 26th or something like that.

I want to like the Supra, I really do.  But every time I look at it, I see it for what it is....a BMW with a really ugly schnoz.  I just can't get behind it, I'd rather have the BMW.

I would hope and presume people who buy it are "car guys/gals" and know what they're getting.  It would be interesting to see how things go if uninformed people buy it, expecting Toyota quality and 3 years down the road discover the joys of German car ownership.

According to the link in the OP:

"August was the first full month of sales for the Supra"

&

" Unless otherwise stated, all figures reflect unadjusted raw sales volume "

I'm not sure exactly how they define "raw sales", but they specifically didn't say "retail sales" which is a very common term in the business so I'm guessing they're talking about sales to dealers here. There are about 1200 Toyota dealers in the US, so about half of them are in a hurry to get the new Supra and start getting those sweet dealer markups from first adopters.

A bunch of the stuff I've read is that's why, for example, the engine is derated compared to the BMW version. As the BMW didn't match certain quality standards for Toyota, but who knows?

Also keep in mind the Z4 is significantly more expensive than the Zupra. It starts at $14k more expensive than the Zupra.

I really like it, but the 135i experience has soured me a bit.

Yeah, I really like everything I've read about the Supra, and I like the way it looks.  I might consider owning one down the line - if I hadn't had experience with owning something built by BMW already.
