hey can you give me an idea of the value of a 1979 triump tr7 convertable.I know of one for sale from the original owner for cheap. the trans is in the trunk and they said that it ran when they parked it 12 years ago. the top is shot but very little rust. floorboards have no rust, its on the bottom of the door and on the back , give me an idea. can you say sbc or v6 conv
I did a Ford 2.8 V6 conversion on one of those a number of years agao, along with a rewire with a Painless Wiring street rod kit. Was actually a nice car to drive afterward. There are pics of an SHO powered one floating about, as well.
SHO TR7
Much more complex than a simple Ford V6 swap, though....
Value? Next to nothing so far, I think. They never really captured the imagination of most people, and were dramaticaly overshadowed by the TR8 when it came out.
The current owner may not agree with me as to the value.

It will cost you more to bring it back than you will ever get for it. Parts car only, unless you are like me and have a dozen or so laying around. Then you can bring the body and mechanicals back at a reasonable cost and drop in a LS1 and t56. To give you an idea, I have two nice 79 TR7 convertibles. I would be thrilled to get $3k a piece for them. A new top is $300 or more. Convertible doors are hard to find and will run you at least $400 if you can find them. Paint would be $2k plus. Clutch master, slave, brakes, and electrics would all have to be rebuild or sorted. Carbs would have to be torn down and rebuilt. A tranny rebuild is close to a grand. Clutch is another 100. 12 year old tires! Get the idea? Now if it were a TR8, maybe it would be worth it. Even a TR8 might be worth more as a parts car than as a restoration project in that condition. If you really want a wedge, buy one that is done, and driven on a regular basis. Don't try to bring one back from the dead.
at one time I had a buick V6 in mine...it is a hoot to drive with a decent engine. mine was a fixed head coupe though. I didn't ever really like the feel of the convertibles.
