One club I run with requires non-synthetic long pants and sleeved shirts. Shorts and T Shirts were OK in the last SCCA event I did. Closed toe shoes in both.

I wouldn't look down on someone for safety gear. However if you show up fully kitted out on your first day I can see people being a little cautious with you to make sure you're not going going out there thinking you're Max Verstappen. As long as you show your instructor you're level headed and take feedback I think you're fine.
I raced dirt track oval cars for years. My first track day, I wore my firesuit. After the first session, my instructor had an emergency and had to leave. Before rolling out for the second session, I saw the lead instructor standing there with his helmet. I beeped the horn and pointed at the passenger seat. He got in and looked at me and said, "don't try to impress me because I won't be ". I responded, I won't, I need help. We got along just fine.

No instructors (in the cars) at Track Night, at least not at the several I've attended. They do have classroom sessions for the blue and green groups before and after the track sessions.
I've only seen three serious fires on track. Two of them were in street cars at TNIA. Wear the suit if you have it, you never know when your number is going to be called.
