I bought someone else's home built trailer. And with a small load it rubs the tires. The springs don't appear to be sagging but there is less than 2" of clearence above the tires. How much should it have ?

Flatbed? Enclosed? Cargo trailer? What size? What do the tires rub -- the fender?

Pics would go a long way here. :)

Enough to let the axle hit the frame before the tires hit the fenders.

Flat bed and yes they rub on fenders on the way back from the challenge wore tread off both front tires. When the tire contacts it there still is 5" before the axel would hit the frame.

Time to fab up some removable fenders then. Thanks.

Connect the fenders to the axle, not the frame. They will then move with the wheel and also give you more door-swing room.

5 inches is a lot of travel for axles. Are the springs soft enough to actually allow 5" of movement? If not, you won't need that much gap between the tires and fenders. The removable fender idea is a good one for loading low cars. I used to have to climb out a Miata window. Not easy.

Put bump stops on the axle/frame.

can you raise the fenders any? Also, how much does the trailor "sag" under load?

I am going to raise the fenders there is 1 " above the tires empty. The springs are still in consideration for replacement.

Lower profile tires... Y'all are over thinking. Or weld a piece of square stock with mining belt bolted to the top after putting the whole thing on jack stands.
