Hey guys/gals...
This is my first post...
I am very interested in the 2009 challenge and the grass roots mindset in general but just wish I lived a bit closer.
How did you guys get the cars there or do most participants live in the neighboring states surrounding the event?
We have an 87 460 BBF F350 and open 16' utility trailer but I can only imagine how fun it would be to drive from Ohio to Florida with the luxurious ride and 8 mpg it gets under load.
Thanks!

Some bring their rides on trailers, some drive them (depending on what you've built).
Contestants were there this year from both Canada and Colorado. Several from OH.
Start saving, and BE THERE next year.
One suggestion: You could rent a tow vehicle that got better mileage and was more comfortable.
Another suggestion: You could hook up with another OH team, rent a 2 car trailer, and come together. OR for that matter, you could find 9 other teams from your area, hire a car hauler, and all fly into G'ville in luxurious comfort.

Two man team - we used my wife's minivaqn and my 2-wheel tow dolly from PA to FL and back for a few hundreds in gas (averaged ~20 MPG, with the rear seats out, loads of room for wheels / tools / etc). I covered gas, he covered hotel / event registration, and we came out pretty much even.
in 2007, we used DHerr's wife's Mercedes SUV and a 2-axle trailer. Mileage was similar as I recall, but gas sure was cheaper!
I have to say, the minivan would not have towed the open trailer well (no brake controller, etc). I'd suggest looking at lighter tow rigs / alternate tow vehicles / adding team members to split the costs.
