Now, according to Nascar.com, he gets no points. Didn't they make it to where a driver had to pick which series they wanted to race for points in? I think they did it in an effort to cut down on moonlighting, and keep guys like Kyle Busch from walking away with everything. If so, I hope this kid didn't pick the Nationwide series, cause if that's the case he just pissed away a point lead.
But regardless, cool to see a rookie get a W in their first 500, is he the youngest winner ever?
I did hear them say he chose to have his points applied to the Nationwide series. They had plans for only a partial run in the Sprint Cup series, although I suppose that could change now.
It was cool to see the Wood Brothers back in winner's circle.
I just hope he isn't a one and done fluke like Derrick Cope was. Won it one time, and has tried to race in every one since then. I see a ton of talent and potential in this guy, hope to see him go far.
Can you even renigg your decision and change your points choosing? I don't even know if the Wood Bros can put up the kind of coin to race a full season, although that may change with this win. I'm not sure how I feel about the whole one season thing, I think it should only be applied to the Cup drivers racing down lower, and not the other way around.
Still though, it was one of those moments that will make NASCAR history.
i think the drivers/teams are locked into one series or the other once the season starts. this was done to give the relative unknowns a shot at Nationwide glory. who wants to make bets on that rule changing next year if he racks up another win or two and a few top tens on the Cup series this year? given how fast the car was and how smart he was in the car, i think we will see more of this kid.. maybe they could change it so you can change series, but start with zero points in the new series and lose all your points in the series you left..

Derrike Cope only won the 500 because a seagull decided to play chicken with Dale Sr in turn 3..
I think luck plays too much in plate races. If you're in the wrong place at any given time, you may be wrecked out, and just finishing with a clean car means you're probably a contender. It does level the field, though, which is great for races like today.
I hope Bayne and the Wood Brothers can compete in many more cup races this year. This kid has talent. Hopefully he can do well at other tracks, too.
He sure did get a ton of television coverage for motorcraft today I loved seeing an automotive sponser in victory lane. The wood brothers winning seems so grassroots to me.
Trevor Bayne looks like the real deal, kept his car clean all race and was there at the end. Reminds me of how David Pearson, the last Wood Brothers Daytona 500 winner in '76 drove back in the day. Good to see the #21 and Wood Brothers colors in victory lane again.

I think the rule should be changed so that you can't even drive at all in a series below the series that you are competing for the championship in. It makes the Nationwide series really lame to watch when it's the same top ten as the Sunday race.

But Cope won at Dover later that year. So he was really a two-and-done driver.
Trevor had a lot of help from a veteran driver. Never the less he did a great job along with a lot of luck.
While growing up the 21 car was the one to watch. Nice to see it back in victory lane.
Hotlinked because I'm a horrible person:
Trevor is local boy done good. Wow! It will be interesting to see how far this win takes him. He is under contract to Jack Roush so someone on that team will lose their seat next year.

they let the Cup guys race in the lower series to get people in the stands and people at home to tune in. teams love it because the big names bring big sponsorship dollars- and don't tell me that any racer at any level doesn't want more $$$ to help fund their racing addiction. hell, there are questions on the Chumpcar and Lemons forums about what kinds of sponsorships are cool for those series...
the drivers in the Nationwide and truck series like being able to not only learn from the big guys, but also say they beat them from time to time..
love it or hate it, Kyle Busch doing the sweep of all 3 series in one weekend last year really got a lot of a attention, and having the Carl Edwards/Brad Keselowski feud from last year carry over from one series to the next also gets attention- even tho it really didn't carry over at all.
Bayne and the Woods Bros did an incredible job all week and deserved the win. Congrats to all of them!
BTW, Bayne only has a very limited schedule for the Cup series; that is why he committed to running for Nationwide points. He's not pissing-away a points lead if he's not running a full season.
It was the first time in a while I was really excited to see someone win. He did a good job of staying out of trouble, even if he had to give up positions at the time. That and seeing the Woods Brothers win again made our day.
