Well looks like the Wartburg beat us all to completing the trifecta of crap (BABE-LeMons-GRM Challenge)... Just wondering if there was any incentive to trying anymore (like a 10-year subscription or something awesome like that). And would Chumpcar count for the road racing leg?

I'm planning on doing the BABE this year, and competing in several Chumpcar events... Maybe the Challenge? I would need to prep my BABE car for road race / challenge duty as it is currently a falling-apart Daewoo.

You know I've had a Scirocco that I've been trying to build for the Challenge for a while know, but can't seem to find the time/motivation, if you feel like helping on a Challenge build! BTW, I'm still down to help with the Zetec swap in the chump car!

How about wining the Triple Crown of Crap*? Kinda like horse racing, only even more improbable...

*(the one caveat being it must be achieved in the same year)

Part harvesting is almost complete - I've got a Contour that's coming your way soon... very soon. And an Escort that needs a suitable place to get its upgrades installed...

I think anyone who can perform that feat in that awesome fashion will receive the same awe and respect, regardless of being the second to do it. It's truly an amazing thing. Some people get phds, some people climb mountains...

Do you mean winning each event??? Let me say as someone who was there ... this feat is about as improbable as man walking on the sun!!

Each event is soooo diffrent and the build needs to meet the needs of each one ... Look at the top of the heap of challenge competetors ... could you road race the Georgia Tech Miata for 15-20 hours and still have it pretty enough and be the engineering marvel it is now? ... Could you licence, insure and drive cross country in Andy Nelsons MG comfortble enough in a dress?

We had the perfect storm of car builds, rare enough and weird enough to impress the judges at GRM, a lemons history that included diplomatic immunity, an allinging of the stars of luck and reliability, an team leader willing to spend cubic time and risk any sanity and domestic bliss, I'm pretty sure at least one of us had a deal with the devil ... and we performed "mid pack".

Like the four miniute mile, this cannot be done! ... ... ... ... wait I think they did that?

Sorry to ressurect the dead, never saw this thread (I was doing a search for something else and stumbled across it)

The trifecta has now been completed twice, another team did it in an MR2 and were just slightly behind us as they ran Lemons after GRM.

The 10 year subscription incentive was one that I personally put up, not one sponsored by the magazine. I had it out there for 3 years and noone took me up on it.

As far as the comment about winning all 3 in one year I dont think its impossible, depending on how you define "win"

The Wartburg had 2 out of 3 if IOE counts as a Lemons win and the Crap Can class win at GRM counts there. BABE was acheivable if not for the belated start due to engine troubles.

Now an overall win in all 3? Yeah that would be a feat. And I will buy a 10 year subscription for anyone who can take the overall (Laps at Lemons, Top spot at GRM and 1st place in BABE)

Consider the gauntlet tossed again. ;)

Has anyone done Challenge, Babe, LeMons, AND Chump? It's only one more race....

Just asking.

Not that Im aware of. Was never really on our radar since the idea for the Trifecta pre-dates Chump and the point was to hit 3 different style events with the same car in the same year. Lemons and Chump are the same style event, seemed little challenge to do a 2nd road race since we'd already proven the car could do it. We were tempted to do the Lemons season ender in Miami but only because I got Jay to promise he'd drive the Wartburg if we brought it.

It was suggested (and considered) that if we were to add a 4th event it should have been the Concourse De Lemons but sadly scheduling just didnt permit it. I think Gary Lieb may have done that one making him the first 4 event competitor.

But by all means, go forth and conquer!

I stand by my original comment, the Triple Crown of Crap would be amazing, about the only thing cooler would be to also run/win some sort of rally or hillclimb.....
