Correct me if I'm wrong:
Spitfire had a solid rear axle?
GT6 had a (weak?) IRS?
TR6 had an IRS? Same as the GT6 or stronger?
Do they all share the same bolt pattern for the wheels?
Do they all have rear drums?
Thanks.

Spitfire and GT6 had very similar rear suspensions. Both IRS. Both had a transverse leaf spring that they used as the upper suspension arm. The Spitfire used the Axle as the lower arm, while the GT6 had a lower control arm. There was also a trailing arm that shot forward from the hub to the body to slightly different positions on either model. Certain years of the GT6 had Spitfire like suspensions I think. Both drums.
Spifire/GT6 have a 4x3.75" or 4X95.25mm bolt pattern. Same as TR7 and TR8. TR6 is different- either 4X4.5 or 4X4.25.
Not sure what you mean by "weak" on the GT6 suspension. It's not an ideal setup (transverse leaf as the upper control arm), but in terms of strength there isn't anything particularly weak about it. As long as you get a later model, the handling isn't too terrible, especially if you stiffen up the front to handle the poor weight distro on the GT6. SPitfire is balanced much better. TR6 has the best suspension, but is also a heavier car.
GT6s and spits have some differences across the years, though....standard, rotoflex, swing-spring....
Here's a pic of my GT6 (with Rotoflex rear end) when I had the body off, so you can visualize it.
(the radius arms attach to the body, so they're not in this pic..)
The Spitfire and GT6 are the same car essentially. Take a Spitfire and make it a hatchback. Now stick a 6 cylinder engine up front. You've made a GT6.
The TR6 was a completely different car, seperate and distinct from the Spitfire/GT6.
Spitfires had swing axle rear ends, always. It is a type of independent rear suspension.
GT6 had the same swing axle as the Spitfire, except for a brief period that it had a rotoflex rear suspension. Independent rear end also.
TR6 had an independent rear end also. Much more robust and more conventional.
Spitfire & GT6 have the same bolt pattern. TR6 is different (larger).
All had rear drum brakes.
