I'm thinking that maybe I'll start looking at pickups. What kind of mark downs or discounts off MSRP have any of you been able to get on new trucks? I'm probably looking at extended cab Silverado 1500, or F150 with 2wd and V8. I would think that's probably a pretty saleable combo for most dealers.
I would recommend doing a truecar price check, then haggle from the best number given.
Close enough to wait for end of model year '15s clearance discounts. August though October are usually good for me.
My F350 diesel had a $56k msrp. We paid $45k. Truecar worked well for us.

Thanks That's handy. I hadn't looked at Brighton and didn't see anything similar for Varsity. The only "surprise" in their listings is that there's still 2014 inventory and the rebates aren't what I would have expected for a vehicle that's going to be 2 years old in a few months. Good info though.
The Memorial Day Sales are going on, so check the papers. They always seem to still have car dealer ads in them.

Why play the games? Everyone keeps saying they wish dealers would just "put a price online that I can buy the car for"
Here's a local to the op dealer, http://www.brightonford.com and if you look they have the MSRP, selling price, and rebates, right on the page. Isn't that what they are supposed to do? I'm sure someone here will insist the dealer could do better, and is playing games.....
What games? "Haggle" to me means negotiate a deal. It's often said that Truecar deals can be beaten with a good offer at the right time.
Seeing real pricing online is still pretty rare in my recent experience (just bought a new car).
Varsity Ford site shows 143 F150s and every single one of them is 4WD. Not a 2WD unit in stock. Odd.

Where are you located? Here in Louisville (Super-Duty plant) the body builders are sending back hundreds of trucks previously ordered for Halliburton and the like. Now that oil prices are down most to all new truck orders have been canceled. Reading, Manning, Monroe, and Auto Truck Group are all on overtime right now, but I see layoffs in the near future.

I looked at Suburban Chevrolet/Cadillac and they don't have any 2WD V8s.
Plenty of 2WD V6s.

I've been working at a Ford dealership for a few months, and talked quite a bit with the sales staff, mechanics, etc.
Looks to me like there is a lot more price wiggle room on 3/4 ton trucks than on 1/2 ton. The half ton trucks are well optioned (including 4wd) and priced high. The 3/4 ton trucks are still nice, though not as many features or as pretty paint jobs.
The cheapest trucks on the lot are 3/4 ton trucks with gas engines.
More truck, less money. But no nav system.

2wd V6 extended cabs, or do you mean standard cabs?
Yea but... do you really need that truck?
In reply to Datsun1500: That's because those truck drivers know that they will get into a wreck.

A $150 Garmin or Tomtom navigation will probably work better, and is much cheaper.

I saw on their dealer list only in 2WD V6 trucks. Standard, Extended, and Quad cabs.

That's odd.
I know for a fact there are zero V6 trucks on the lot where I am working, and I seriously doubt there is one on a lot within 100 miles of here.
The local Ford dealers here seem to have a significant number of the Ecoboost V6 trucks, more than V8s.
How about "Work" trucks ? they have less frills.

I'm sorry, I was wrong. There are lots of V6 trucks, but most of them are 4WD. There are like two or three V6 2WD trucks.
I'm just going by their online vehicle list, it could be completely wrong. But that's what it's telling me for 2015 trucks.

Spend the extra money and get 4wd, your resale value will thank you

So, spend extra money so you MIGHT be able to get it back IF you ever sell it (assuming you don't wreck it, etc)?
That doesn't make sense.
Buy the truck you need. Screw the resale.

We just bought a Suburban last year for work. The dealers here in the Northeast don't stock any 2 WD trucks at all. Seems the American dream is to own a 4WD truck even if you will never even drive it on a dirt road. If you want 2WD try looking down south where they don't "need" it. Probably no deals to be had as you will have to get it shipped or pick it up yourself but the savings for not having the 4WD might cover the cost. I've never understood why people pay $5k more for something they won't use and another component that will cost big money to fix when it fails. Good luck finding the truck that has what YOU want, its out there, just may take some time to locate.
