I think a 5er would work better an an UTE than a 3er.. maybe an E39 ute?

116-chassis Giulietta, actually. Either way, no great loss .

We had a rusty 2nd gen CRX hanging out at the shop that we were talking about Ute-ifying, never went very far because we couldn't get a title. My question was, if I take a wobbly, rusty, '80's unibody car and hack off a significant part of the structure with a sawzall, will the car just fall apart from the lack of structural integrity?

I still like the idea of having a car that can easily haul motors and transmissions and get 30-40 mpgs doing it. I realize that you can probably fit a Turbo 400 in a Swift if you're willing to remove the seats, but I can't see the local junkyard guys carefully forklifting it in through the hatch.

I actually bought a 1st gen CRX made into a UTE. I bought it for the parts as it was made out of an HF. I don't have any pictures, but it was super ugly anyway (badly done) .

Some of these examples, though, look pretty good.

And of course the Goldwing Towtruck:

Does the person getting their car towed get to ride along on the bike, in the car, or jog along side?

In reply to RossD:

I believe they are cryogenically frozen in that pod behind the seat, to be thawed only upon arrival.

I bet the body and fabrication work to make some of these is very difficult. On your CRX ute, did it creak and groan and flex like Lou Ferrigno over every pothole? Did you find it to be somewhat practical overall? My most recent concept is to do an EG hatch because they already have a little tailgate. Unfortunately $4.25 gas seems to have spiked the values on these cars recently.

Please tell me more about this. Is there a build thread somewhere? I actually saw this car about a month ago in Atlanta. The guy also has a normal Guilia and an old Fiat 500.

Hey, that's in my old neighborhood! I used to drool all over that thing everytime I went down to Caramba Cafe. It was the cafe owner's (the big Alfa logos in the restaurant windows gave it away). I talked to him about it a couple of times, nice guy.

I almost bought an Alfa Spider off him, he is a nice guy, but more of a part out chop shop guy for alfas, he has a duetto he was restoring but wasn't very far along (about 2 years ago)...

I don't really know anything about it- besides that someone did it. It appears to be a normal 1600cc TI, thought.

There was a guy out in California who did a similar conversion, but used a Toyota truck bed- very clean job. Same guy made a 2 door TI- basically the same look at a TI, but the rest like a GTV.

Some of these conversions are interesting...
