Truck tires that don't suck?

Likely not what your shooting for but these Nitto Terra Grapplers where the best handling truck tires I ever bought. The tire had a huge amount of grip. It made such a dramatic difference over the 245/75/16 Kelly Springfield LT tires that I can best describe as the worst tires I have ever driven on.

I thought if their truck tires are this good then the car tires must be outstanding.

BTW GAWD I miss that truck

I've been riding on Cooper 10 plys for 20 years. Very happy. But I don't expect my 8200 lb truck to handle like my 2200 lb racer.

I also did not expect my 5200 lb Silverado truck (same as yours) to handle like my 2200 lb. racer.

Even if it's not carrying a load, it is a lot heavier, and the center of gravity is much higher.

I am much happier with road tires than I was with AT's. Keep the pressure up.

Michelins.

I just put a set of Cooper Discoverer H/T's on the "Dajaban" shop van. They are a highway tread and I am very happy with them. Replaced the old Goodyears that were on the van when I got it. The Goodyears still had plenty of meat, but if it was humid out they had no grip. Forget it if it was raining.

For an all terrain tire, we brought in a set of Cooper Discoverer AT/3's for my buddy's 4x4 Ram. He is also very happy with them.

I've run Mickey Thompson ATZ Plus on my wife's Wrangler and my 4x4 Dakota. They are a nice tire. Still an all terrain, but a little more street than off road in the tread. The regular ATZ is more off road.

I never had good luck with the Kumho all terrains. I love their high performance street tires, but the truck tires were disappointing in comparison. They wore fast, but didn't have the grip to match the wear rate.

Bridgestone Dueller Revo2. I've used a number of the popular AT tires, and these are the BEST by a mile on the road, and are great off-road as well and in snow. Quiet, handle well, great rain traction, excellent ride. I was surprised at how they are so much better than the BFG A/T's I've had a few sets of (and those are pretty good in their own right).

If I'm doing truck tires, I do truck tires. Road feel in my trucks (most have been 3/4 or 1 ton) means quiet, nice ride, and long life.

But some of the 'tweeners I've had were pretty good. The new Bridgestone Alenzas are really nice on my mom's Caddy SVX. Most of the big names have SUV tires that are a good mix of car and truck. I'm thinking of Michelin M/S2, Bridgestone Alenza H/L, Goodyear Wrangler SR/A, Firestone Destination L/E, etc.

I've never had a Michelin I didn't like. I've never had a Pirelli or General that I did like. YMMV

By the way, the Destination and M/S2 are top rated tires and I LOVED my SR/As on my other truck (03 GMC 2500)

It is THE truck tire for a truck that is used like a truck (daily driving, towing, hauling, a bit of dirt, a bit of snow).

Biggest criteria I've learned to follow is that tires with max load inflation pressures under 50 lbs are for cars, over 50 lbs are for trucks. I run 60-80 lbs of pressure in my Mastercrafts on my Silverado and have no tire issues except those caused by front suspension parts wearing out.

They're decent, but nothing over the top. I had a couple sets of NT450's and they were decent enough tires.

Finally got my new tires, a set of Michelin LTX, the real truck ones that are rated to 80psi. I've only had them for a couple of days, but holy cow are they better. I have them at 45psi and they more comfortable than my old tires were. At 37. Grip better, steer better, everything better. Thanks for the suggestion.

My wife has a set on her FJ that are 5 years old or so. They've been fantastic in every way. The internet would have me believe that the current run isn't quite as good as the ones we have, but who's to say.

Love my Geolanders! They handle fine in the dry and when I do get in the dirty stuff, they grip real well. I drive a 2005 Chevy Colorado. z714x4

I Just replaced a set of Geolander AT-S with General Grabber AT2 on my impreza (yes, it's lifted and uses truck tires)

I was not impressed by the treadwear of the Geolanders which lasted about 30k. They were a decent tire, but so far I'm liking the grabbers better.

I did not read this thread all the way through, but personally I've always been happy with the BFG KO2's. Quiet and smooth on the highway, but still good grip for when you need it. 

Funny this comes back from the dead.  I need to find 15" tires for my 4runner.  The pickings are now quite slim.   

I used Kumhos on my 4-Runner for seven years, quite happy with them.  I just bought some Goodyear Wrangler 235-75-15s for my C-1500.  Put them on Friday, drove six hours on them Saturday, no side roll, not noisy, not bad looking.

My Grand Cherokee runs 15" wheels and the options are getting limited.  I'm gonna give the Kumho KL51 a try and hope for the best.

Thanks guys.   The standard tire for my 4runner is 225/75-15 .  I found a couple of tires in the optional 235/75-15 at Discount Tire, my usual source of rubber.

My KJ came with Goodyear RSA;s .   They wore like iron, hence no traction in snow or ice.    Otherwise, no complaints.

General Tire Grabber HTS (or whatever this year's designation is.) I have couple year old a set of the the HLT designation on the wife's X-Terra and they're great. Not great for going mudding or serious off road but they work well as a primarily street driven vehicle.

I've had that thing going faster than it has any right to have been driven on them and it's been nothing except fantastic.

as this came back from the dead, still on the Geolanders I put on my Disco when I got it. 20,000+ miles later, I am still very happy with them
