Hiking, biking, kayaking.
Heavy loads or the road less travelled.
Spring break, staying out late, road trips, tailgates.
Laying out in the sun, friends forever having fun.
Towing toys, testing luck, this is what makes a truck a truck.

It's more of a poem. It's supposed to be recited in the same fashion as the narration in the new Miata commercial.

Let me put it to you this way. Most cars are nothing more than A-B transportation, but with most trucks, you can do anything you want to do. You know that "do anything" attitude that went with SUVs? Well with a truck, you can actually do anything. It's freedom on four (or six) wheels, from compact to one ton. If you want to do anything, get a truck.

Oh, my bad. My mind read it using this guys' voice:
I'd rather be called "Brad" and be grounded to the ground than hear that stupid "MX-5" commercial.
Upon reflection, I now understand the add is showing how a Miata can make even a Ginger feel like they have a soul. Brilliant!
A modern 1/2 ton truck drives like a (very) big car while getting 1/2 to 2/3 the mileage. The tradeoff is that instead of a trunk you get a bed to do stuff like this. If this sounds appealing, you might enjoy truck ownership.
Its sad, where I live trucks are rarely ever used as a truck. Im sure its like that in most places, kids using daddys money to buy a nice new truck, make it stupid tall so you cant get anything into the bed and it sags if a trailer is ever hooked up to it. Ive done more adventuring and towing with a volvo and a miata than most these "bros" ever do with a pickup.
trucks. yes.
i've logged 36k in the av, about 75% of the miles have been with trailer. the bed is dirty, and it pulls my stuff with kids in the back seat.
this one is my runabout. it does the dirty work when i need a larger bed. carries scrap, car parts, more car parts, construction debris, and fills my needs when i want to be loud and bang gears(454/5speed)
and i'm building the heavy hauler, because pulling up to the 8k tow rating of the Av has lead to me finding the weak links one by one.
put me in the camp that uses trucks as trucks, and is sad that trucks cost so much now because bro's thought it was cool to get a 3/4 ton diesel and jack it up on ugly rims to drive to the gym to impress the other bro's.

Very nice collection! You may keep your man card holstered in your wallet. was the 454 truck born that way? I have the primeval instinct to want a big v8 with a manual and that truck tickles my fancy

'twas born a 4.3 truck. i got it reading 218k and a broken odometer, PO told me he drove it 6 years with it broken, all over texas. so who knows how many miles it had. it finally blew headgasket and i just kept driving it, then tossed in a 454. tbi is pretty much plug and play from v6 to sbc to bbc. thanks, gm! on the Av, it checked all the boxes for me. needed to haul work trailer safely with kids in car seats, able to tow 8k for my car hauler with something big on it, and i did not like how my suburban had nothing between the tools in the back and the kid in the back seat.
This is what I have been hauling my Hobie Cat with all summer. 10.7 mpg at 65mph while towing the boat is not great, but better than I expected.
I like trucks but driving one with my commute (almost 70 miles/day) would put me in the poor house. If someone made a crew cab 2wd 4 cyl diesel with three pedals, id be first in line.

I've been driving the Suburban the last three weeks, 76 miles a day. It does go through some fuel. Glad to have the Dakota moving again.
How about getting a GM crew cab truck, drop in a Cummins 4BT with a manual trans, then you would get good mpgs. Or if you are a glutton for punishment, drop in a 4-53T Detroit.

Funny looking "sunshine" on the ground...I'd hate to see winter.
I got no truck at the moment. Trying to fix that. Want a 3/4 ton extended cab 4x4, but not finding a lot that isn't completely clapped out at the moment. Patience grasshopper...
