Duly noted- thanks! I wonder if the fan assembly for the '95 318 in the junkyard nearby would work in it... I imagine that the TSA would have an interesting time with that as checked luggage!

I think it is the same. The 318ti is the same as the sedan from the windshield forwards. Everything after that is unique. As long as it is electric, you should be good to go.

It's crazy that for how much people hated EP3s, their price is holding steady compared to the much more capable 2006-2011 Civic Si which is currently tanking in price if you can even find one.

Huh? The opposite thing is happening to the 8th gen values.

If you like shifting, my wife has a 2001 CRV with a manual trans, and you are shifting all the time with it.  I'm in 5th gear before I finish getting off the freeway onramp.  1st gear lasts about 1 second, I actually start in 2nd if I can keep it rolling through a stop..

Class C winner in lemons, so it can't be that horrible..well yes it can.  ;)

I forgot what it was like to enjoy shifting until I bought this 95 Mustang with a v6 that had a 5-speed.  Oh what shifting joy again.

So if you like to feel the power and hear a good noise and be cheap, a sn95 is a good option.

Any chance you can elaborate on the V6 Mustang ownership? Can you elaborate on the power and sound you speak of? The overall solidity (or not) of the car, the mpg?

Thanks in advance for anything you can offer!

I'm sensing a slight bit of sarcasm about the CRV and SN95s... not that there are really any Mustangs that meet my price/trans criteria nearby anyway.

Finally got into discussing this a bit with the Dancer last night, and as expected she initially bristled at spending money on another car when we have loans we could do with paying down instead, but came around some when I listed off all of the work that I've been putting off doing on the QX4 because it's the only car I have to drive at the moment. Unfortunately I am probably going to have to try and aim more for the extreme lower price end of the options because she's also not wrong about us needing to be using as much of our refund as possible to pay down the HELOC we used to finish the cabin.

Annoyingly the owner of the Focus with the bad starter has never responded... will probably try texting again midday. Also messaged the guy with the SHO to see about getting more pictures and info- if it's drivable as is (aside from the issue with the ignition) at $500 it might be workable (even moreso if I could get it for less).

the classicjackets 318ti is sooooooo much bang for buck.  hell, i could install the fan and velcro a lighted toggle to the dash for a temporary fix for you.

or for me.

Oh, I don't disagree- the 318ti is definitely the best bang-for-the-buck, but I'm probably going to have to aim more for 'lowest amount invested' vs. overall value.

Honestly the fan issue doesn't really bother me that much given that 95%+ of the time I'd be driving it home would be on the highway where the fans wouldn't be needed (or really effective) anyway. However getting the BMW would involve not only the (undeniably ridiculously low) $1500 cost of the car, but also a $3-400 plane ticket to get up there plus the fuel to get it home and at best a full day's time.

Also, the fact that there's finally interest in this car has me interested in it again, lol. Wouldn't hold off on selling it to you, might have to work it into good enough shape to straight trade Angry for his Sonoma, though!

Pretty much knew that was going to be the white Capri listed yesterday. Little to no info in the post, but I did take note of it since I've always liked those cute little things- but it's also an automatic so falls a bit outside of what I want. Were it an XR2 or even a 5-speed I'd be taking a lot closer of a look despite the distance.

In reply to dculberson :

Yeah, I know I've got to be careful since I'm wanting something that can be driven with little to no effort (replacing a starter or wiring up a starter switch are things that don't worry me). Trying to thread the needle on getting something fairly reliable and halfway fun but also dirt cheap is always a challenge (both with or without the capital 'C'...).

It kind of sucks that the closest auto auction that was open to the general public closed... granted there were a lot of times when nothing would sell for low enough to be worth it, but there were always the times when you'd be able to snag something unusual for cheap because nobody else cared about it.

I don;t know the car.. but I drove my ti for a couple of months with an inop fan switch. When ever I got stuck in traffic, I turned the aircon on.

O_O Am I imagining things, or is this listing wrong and this is actually a stick? And is it also wrong that I'd seriously consider trading the Infiniti in to get this if it is???

Yeah, as long as the photos are up the correct car, it's a proper manual transmission. I'm a new and reluctant Facebook user, but I'm seeing that on mp a lot. Manual cars listed as automatic.

What I wonder, is why they wouldn't polish both headlights. I wonder if the driver's side has been replaced.

Edit: hold on a minute, they're not even identical!

I stopped by the dealership it's at, and it is indeed a stick. The light actually ARE identical but the drivers side is clearly (no pun intended) brand new, most certainly because it was clearly in a front-end collision on the drivers side as the hood doesn't line up properly and I couldn't even get the hood open because the safety latch was jammed. It's a neat vehicle and I really like them- but for that much money to have some clear issues it's not worth considering further.

Sadly, I don't think that's really the case- it's on the high side considering the damage, but about what I'd expect a dealership to be trying to sell one for.

I'm not doubting you at all. It's just that I paid just under that for a rust-free 2006 GMC Sierra 4x4 crew cab. I couldn't imagine spending $6500 on a 17 year old Subaru (and I like Subaru's).

At least around here that's about what a rust-bucket 2006 truck would go for, but used truck prices here are and always have been patently insane.

Was hoping to get up to look at the SHO this afternoon, but it's looking like that may not happen- will hopefully have another shot tomorrow if I can't get up there today.
