So I've got this Geo Prizm that I'm thinking of building as a sleeper project. The biggest issue thus far is finding good struts. I want to run externally adjustable Koni Sports.
So... how would you all suggest I go about figuring out what inserts/struts will fit my 95 Geo Prizm? I can't exactly go about hacking up my current struts just to find out the size of the insert.

I think I just answered my own question...

You can get externally adjustable fronts for a 95 Corolla, but not rears. Anyone got tips other than buying them new and sending them in for a rebuild + external adjusters?
Try calling Koni-NA and see what they say.
There are other adjustable strut companies out there as well.....
Just sayin'

Do they take a cartridge in the back? If it's anything like the celica of the same year, they don't actually make a rear strut for it, BUT you can modify the housing to accept a koni cartridge.
Get a dimensional drawing, there is a right/left difference between the rears but it is because of a bracket for the brake hose. Find a coilover of similar dimension as far as extended and compressed length, mounting ear thickness and mounting ear bolt spacing and build up from there.

What, like KYB AGXs?
Nope, you have failed to think outside of the box. The penalty for failure is a Sebring, it used to be death but then the new Sebrings came out and we got a great deal on them.....

The only shock companies I can think of are:
Koni, Sachs, Bilstein, KYB, Monroe, Ohlins, Tien, and then various model specific small operations. Tien might not even make their struts.
I also don't spend much time on this forum where you guys know all the grassroots tricks.

According to their site it's a cut-it-open-and-spew-it-out then shove the Koni cartridge inside the OE housing.

Yep just like the Celicas. Koni will have something for it, i'd put a case of beer on that.
I don't have the faith in my abilities to successfully cut open a set of $750 struts, so i just got a full bolt in coilover setup.
Hey Taiden, you from The Dash?

+1 for full bolt-in coilovers...see what D2 has to offer.

D2, KSport, Megan Racing, all essentially the same thing, owned by the same company, assembled in the same factory, and POSSIBLY might even be the same stuff as some of the Tein setups.
I ended up with Megan Racings because KSport couldn't get the spring rates i specified in time for some reason.

Am I really hearing about D2, KSport and Megan coilovers on GRM? I don't even consider them an option.
As for cutting open the stuck strut... it's not that hard. That's the least of my worries.
Captainzib, yes I am on the dash. :)

They're cheap budget coilovers that perform reasonably well.
My setup ran me $850 shipped. I got pick my spring rates, it came with pillowball mounts, they look cool as hell, and they're cheaper than stock replacement stuff!
My mounts are $50 apiece normally.

I'll give you that you can get them for cheap... but i got a set of drop in konis and ground controls with my chosen rates for $800 shipped from a honda-tech vendor... Can't beat that with a stick...

Wow..... well then, i envy you. That's about what just the Konis would cost me after shipping and tax.
I'd be looking at about $1500 for a setup like that.

Maybe that's just hondas... I don't really know. All I know is I haggled them down from $900 shipped to $800 shipped and they were drop in externally adjustable konis... beat the E36 M3 out of my AGX/GCs i had on my sentra.

It's probably just Hondas..... i miss how cheap i used to be able to get parts when i had my Hondas.
It's cool, i'm happy with my Megan Racings for now. The pillowball mounts more than made up for it for me.

What is the most noticeable difference with pillowball mounts?
Typically less deflection in the suspension, meaning better feedback through the steering wheel and more direct reaction from input.
Plus, most of those mounts allow camber/caster adjustment from the top of the car.

Yes. This.
Basically... combined with the 32-way adjustibility of the struts alone.... this setup has more stuff to mess with than i can even figure out.
