I read a story once that "Smokey" Yunick would buy a crate motor and bolt it to a dyno. Run it up to 6-7K rpms and go to lunch. If it was still running when he got back, he would build a race engine out of it. That was his idea of "seasoning"

I seem to remember reading that Rolls Royce used to cast blocks then let them sit in the weather for 18 months? to 'season' before doing the machine work to prep for final assembly.

I've heard of some pretty off the wall methods to season an engine block. Some examples included leaving in a lake for a couple months, or peeing on it...

I heard that SAAB used to have Chuck Norris stare at their rally engines for 1 minute, if they didn't crack in half they would use them.
