I have to agree that NA with a linear power curve is the what you want. That said, I have thought about having a supercharged 3800 from the buick/pontiac in a Camaro as the later cars did have the 3800 v6. It would be a fun alternative in my book over a turbocharging system.

supercharger builds for the 3800 in the f-body have been done, but they are hard to do. The air intake faces the fire wall and take some fancy fab work to correct.

I much prefer NA power on track. In my very limited experience with American V8s, the power curve seems to die down in the high RPMs. Its like you get awesome bottom end torque, amazing pull up through the midrange, but then once you reach the top end, the motor makes noise but doesnt pull any harder. I'm sure with tuning and parts, you could change that.

I tend to like engines focused on the high RPM range better for track. Honda engines are great IMO. They dont make any power at all down low, but on a track you will be keeping the RPMs high anyways, so you will always be at optimal power. I also like BMWs earlier inline 6 engines. Pretty steady power curves, even up through the high rpm range.

Which NA engines make good power and are linear at the same time? I like the power curve on the volvo 5cyl, maxima v6, bmw I6. chevy 327 etc. These are the only non-v8 or 4cyl "larger" engines that Ive driven in anger. Other than the easy button I6, what engines do you guys like for NA track use?

Do you mean engines that only increase in torque as you increase in rpm? F20/22C, 2zzge, Honda Type-R engines, S54, rotary. Most I can think of are 4 cylinder.

how about this supercharged 2zzge dyno

I've seen one with a centrifugal supercharger that was mad but couldn't find it. Had 300whp.

In reply to kanaric: Thats basically what I meant. Increases of torque and hp w/o the large dips and valleys.
