Yeah k24s are pretty old school, they about as good as the GT series garretts, but IIRC they continually get updated. I think if you want junk yards take out the volvo td04s are what you want, they have the largest turbine section of the td04s. Or if you want a single, an hx35 or a new kinugawa td06-20g. If you're going to spend aftermarket money, don't berkeley around and just get an EFR, they don't make one small enough for you to do duals though. If you have room for a single it's what I'd do.

Thanks! I definitely want two turbos, in what Volvos will I find the td04s? I'd love to be able to do this with junkyard parts, but if it's really not possible, I will step up and spend aftermarket money.

A pair Garrett 2554R's appear as if they'd work quite well on a Porsche flat 6....conversely, whatever is stock on sr20det's would work as well(and you used to be able to find those all day long for peanuts from dorifto'ers)

Id skip both of those and anything else that uses a t25 turbine housing for this. Too high of a chance of having booost control issues because the waste gates on those suck, even once ported. The sr20 takeoffs are hard to find now for cheap unless they need a rebuild.

What if you went with an external WG setup? I don't think you'd want a pair of internally waste gated turbos anyways

I guess that would be fine but then in this size range there aren't any ewg turbine housings so you're stuck with the extra size anyways. For what you're looking for iwg is perfectly adequate.

Ahh, didn't know if it was a balancing the wastegates issue or not.

I know in the gt28-30 range, there are plenty of ewg housings out there, but I would suspect those are far too big for twins in the flat 6 application he wants. A single 3571 would probably do the trick however, but would probably be laggy.

Oddly enough, there is a 3063 currently hanging out on my 998cc Raptor.....lol

Assuming equally technology and packaging a bigger single will be less laggy than duals, slightly. But you always end up with worse packaging on a split bank engine with a single. Though as long as it's decent packaging wise an efr is going to be better for spool than a pair of anything else.

Most off the shelf turbos aren't going to run into that issue unless you make them by tuning like a dufus or sucking at fabricating your exhaust.

Well, it was a stock turbine housing and discharge housing with a much bigger compressor side bolted to it. My original posts way back in the beginning of this thread (years ago) talked about how you can't just go off a power number because power numbers are generally inferred from the compressor side which could be attached to a turbine side which would be terrible for your engine. So you can't just say 'this turbo can make 400hp, i only want to make 300!' because you could end up bolting a gt28 turbine to a 3.4l or something stupid like that.

The 1g DSM 14b (manual cars) can be had for less than $100 used. I think a pair of those will do well on a 3.4 V6.

I emailed Garrett through their website and got this response: "ello, The Garrett GTX2860R is the same size as the K24 and performs better. You can check with AMS Performance to see if they make a kit for your car as they mostly work with high end cars like yours."

M030 wrote: The kits I've found for my application (TTP, Lotec, etc) all use Borg Warner K24 turbos. I'm only second guessing their selection because K24s are commonly found as OE turbos on old (1986-91) VW diesels.

K24s were also the turbos used on Audi inline 5s after 1989 (including the S2/S4/S6 DOHC engines), a bunch of Volvos including S60Rs, others.

It's a frame, not a specific turbo. Think K24 = T2-2.5, K26 = T2.5-T3, K27 = T04. Except, the Audi K24 technically outflows the K26 it replaced (which was the same as 944 Turbo units save for fitment details), until you crank the boost waaay outside of OEM levels and then the big old K26 starts to shine again. Some of the newer K24s outflow the K26s, the K24-7200 from certain Volvos is considered to be a massive upgrade for the Audi guys.

The diesel K24 is a little baby thing.

Not as such, no. A little searching reveals that I was thinking of the K24-7400. "2004-up S60R" is the first thing I found.

Depending on what you're attaching it to, you may need to play some musical housings and do some machining.

Lol. I remember that, felt like it was hitting a damn rev limiter... Anything over 10psi and 4k RPM.

The V70 T5 turbos are probably a bunch cheaper and a bit smaller.

Thanks for the kind words m030, but turbo expert is HUGE exageration of my knowledge. I thought s60Rs had td0415t turbos? I would think a pair of xc70-s60-v70 td0413ts would be a pretty good match and dirt cheap, anyone agreee/disagree?

My question is what to use on my 5l 32v 928, I'd like to see 650 wheel. Anyone have thoughts on junkyard snails for that?

Depends on the year. Volvo used Mitsubishi turbos and KKK, err, Borg-Warner turbos. (I believe they are known internally as "3K")

A pair of -12Ts would be durn near perfect for a 3.4l V6 expecting 350hp or so at the crank. That is about double the power output of my own Volvo with one of those turbos. The torque converter will flash to almost 3,000rpm. At stock boost, peak torque was at 1900rpm or so, on a 1950cc engine. But mind you, this is with a split manifold and a dual scroll turbine. There was a single scroll -14T model on the 200hp version, easily available on eBay through the usual Mitsubishi turbo vendors. BUT, they're a nonstandard trapezoidal turbine inlet. The 5cyl models all had what I think of as Audi style turbine inlets, kind of like a rounded and squashed T3.

My question is what to use on my 5l 32v 928, I'd like to see 650 wheel. Anyone have thoughts on junkyard snails for that?

Urrrgh. Have fun fitting that. I've been watching the trials and tribulations of someone fitting a twin turbo system in a 928. He made something work but it ain't pretty, and he's working on getting some better design exhaust manifolds cast. (Join the speedtalk.com forum and go into the Advanced section - you must be a member to read - and look for the thread about turbo exhaust manifolds. It's updated regularly right now so it should be near the top)

V70 T5 has the TD04HL-15T, thats the big turbine wheel and one of the better compressor wheels. I dont think any of the volvos had the 13t thats the wrx. Some of the older ones like the 840 use the 13g compressor wheel though.

For a 5.0v8 and you want 650? Do you have room for a single? A 7 blade 60mm inducer HX40 would be just about right if you swapped on the big turbine housing. A pair of "big" 16Gs would also be pretty decent there. Probably a TD05 version in the 8cm housing would be good.
